Washing your hair everyday...

I sort of have the oily/dry problem myself, my ends are prone to dryness but the roots get oily within a day or two. However, i've noticed that if i wash my hair everyday, it gets oilier even faster, sometimes by the end of the day. So I normally wash my hair about 2-3 times a weeks, it works for me. plus they say the best moisturiser for the hair is its natural oil.

I wash mine everyday. I have too. if I don't, it starts to get that "hair" smell and smell like a wet dog if I go out in the rain. And that is only after two days of not washing! I do condition everyday. I notice that my hair is way more healthier looking and softer since I started conditioning daily a few weeks ago. I use Tresemme re-moisturizer. I know, some people hate tresemme, but I love it. Garnier is good too. Redkin is nice but too expensive for me right now.

I wash my hair daily, and the thought it destroys your hair is a myth. I have asked several hairdressers and they all have told I just need the right shampoo and conditioner.

I had the misfortune of inheriting my mother's naturally oily hair, so as much as I'd like to, I can't imagine not washing my hair every day! Every night I wash it before going to bed and, by the next afternoon, I can already feel my hair become greasy. It can be a pain to wash it every day, but I doubt it has any negative consequences (I would have found out by now!).

I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but I suggest that if you have the type of hair that needs daily washing, start using a sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates are horrible for hair; they're like detergents and are extremely drying.

A few sulfate-free shampoo brands off the top of my head: Moroccanoil, Enjoy, Pureology, Jonathan. Do a quick google search and you'll find a lot more.

I use to wash my hair 2X a week but now that I have cut it shorter I seem to wash it more often like every other day or every 2 days...I guess it really depends. Just use a good shampoo , conditioner, and deep treatment when needed. I would go for natural products because anything with sulfates in it can strip your hair and cause dryness.

I have to shampoo it daily,I have very fine hair plus am inclined towards dandruff.I use a great tea tree shampoo by Nature's Gate.

^The less you wash your hair, the less you irritate your scalp

I'm the same as seanutbutter: if I don't wash my oily hair every day it will be hanging in slimy ropes in no time. :yuk: I have tried washing it less as other people have, but the greasiness comes just as quick.

I wash mine everyday with conditioner. But I use shampoo only every other day.

Honestly it's different for each individual. I used to wash my hair everyday because I loved the 'clean' hair scent and feel. :D

Then I cut about 7 inches off of my hair and realized that all of the styling I did to it when it was longer wasn't *nearly* as noticeable as when I tried the same on a short bob. I have extremely fine hair and it tends to get oily very quickly.

I'm currently trying not to wash it as much as I was before and so far it's working out fairly well. I'm trying to grow my hair out, so i'd rather not damage it with styling everyday.

I wash it maybe twice a week. Usually I can wear it down for two days and it still looks and smells awesome. Third day if it's a little iffy I put some dry shampoo in it, and throw it up into a small clip with some bobby pins at the bottom for strays.

In reference to your_yellowbird, I normally do wear a shower cap in between, but only because my hair is naturally curly so the heat from the shower will make my hair look like a small frizz puff if I don't xD

my hair is a very short and textured cut, and extremely thick and wiry and tends to be dry, so washing it every day is a terrible idea -- i honestly put shampoo in my hair maybe once every 7-10 days.

if i wash my hair at all, i need to put handfuls of goopy product in to make it behave at all -- and it never, ever looks as good as my hair does when it's just 'dirty.' plus i dye my hair a very brilliant red and shampooing makes it fade very quickly...

i shower daily, but tend to avoid getting my hair wet as much as possible and then rinse it with a cooler water and comb (this helps distribute oils too i think, so i end up with more 'texture' and less 'wow my scalp is greasy'.) occasionally i'll use a bit of shampoo in my bangs or temples if it's especially oily there, or comb some conditioner through the ends as they are often quite dry and pokey.

however, if your hair is long, straight, thin, and has less layers -- washing every day is probably necessary -- so like everyone said, it's very personal

I wash my hair every day. If I don't, by 4pm it's a limp lank oily mess

I wash my hair every day, too. Always have, actually. My hair dresser once advised me not to do that, because my hair tends to get really dry in the winter, so I slowly started washing my hair less often (took quite a while for my hair to get used to it), but i just hate going to bed with my hair not smelling nicely of shampoo, so I went back to washing it every evening

i wash my hair every other day or sometimes every three days once the weekend comes. i used to wash my hair everyday because my scalp is terribly oily, but the ends are soooo dry and couldn't afford further drying, so i kind of forced myself to get used to a new routine with shampooing. when my scalp/bangs get oily, i smooth in a little bit of baby powder. it helps so much!

I wash my hair every other day because my ends get fried if I wash every day.

I heard that you can shampoo every other day, but condition every day. It helps get some of the excess oil out but doesn't strip the hair because you're just using conditioner. Maybe that will help?

I have been washing my hair everyday for almost 10 years. And it looks healthy. But..you must use good products! And I use A LOT of products - for example a use a masque every day

I have to,have got really fine hair.plus a teeny bit of dandruff (it's almost gone,I swear!).I love Nature's Gate shampoo.

I have to wash my hair every day. In fact, more often than not, I wash it twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening after my workout. If I don't was my hair in the morning it's oily and I can't style it. And I just feel gross if I don't wash all the sweat out after my workout.
