Washington, DC Shopping

Whenever I visit the Juan Valdez in 19th and F, I always see a lot of well put together suits (I instinctly judge suit-fits...I can't help it!!) and they're always speaking spanish (which explains a lot). It's in the same building as the International something...mind's blanking right now even though It's a block away from me argh.

Diorling - you've got NYC!

...Seriously.

Is that so the kids from SCAD have a place to work?

dear peeps - i just returned from a trip to nyc and was dying with joy at barneys. i spent like HOURS - also was instantly amazed at how much i could get done when the subway runs like it's supposed to!!! i dont care how people say nyc subway's dirty, etc. - its supposed to take me to and from places and i really dont care for dc metro and its one train every half an hour...nearly made me miss my train to nyc on sunday!

sorry i had to vent - but i just miss the city soooo much. anyway, the trip was exciting as i got to oggle/molest every bag in sight. barneys was actually having a lanvin trunk show so i got to see all of the new bag/shoes/clothes - i have to say the new designs are......rather disappointing. im glad that i have last seasons b/c they keep changing the hardware and now some of them dont even have the lanvin coin anymore! anyhoo, didnt end up buying a lot but now i def know what im looking out for in upcoming sales. :)

You know what DC is also lacking- APC. That is one of my favorite stores and I don't think any stores here even carry it.

I would die if an APC store opened here. I would be flat broke, too. One of the Denim Bars (Bethesda?) carries APC jeans for men and women. I think the Barney's Coop stores only carries the men's jeans. But I haven't seen any other APC clothing anywhere else.

APC would be great. Our hipsters might look better! (IMHO, they need some help ;p)

Another STYLEistics Event - April 21 at RnR

just saw this on pandahead... the one i went at rock n' roll a few months ago was very hipster/indie so if you are not into that dont go haha. i did score a pair of new earnest sewns for $30, however so its worth a look.

The Juan Valdez on 19th and F is roughly on the same block as both the World Bank and the IMF.

ok so today i spent a full day shopping in georgetown and then chevy chase and i just have to vent. first, the selection (for shopping) in dc is pathetic. second, what is with the service in designer boutiques here? i am 21--so granted, i look young--but i walked into max mara with a big, spring 2007 patent leather max mara bag on my arm and clearly those b*tches had no clue because they acted as if i did not exist. to make matters worse, i am always a polite shopper--i always say hello and smile when i enter a store, and i never walk in acting as if i just cannot be bothered to so much as acknowledge the help..so when my mother came in (who is a biiiig max mara shopper) i played the "oh mummy, isn't the selection at this store just dreadful.." etc etc to get under their skin...

:yuk:

ps - would it kill them to carry size 0 or xs anywhere? i notice that many dc area stores are very anti-size 0, and it drives me insane.

but enough of my ranting. i am so considering an ny trip soon...if only to get my hands on some of the kate moss for topshop collection at barneys..and perhaps a trip to the shoe dept at Jeffrey..(and that's another thing! i was snubbed in the shoe department of the mazza gallerie neiman marcus wearing LANVIN flats! there must be something in the water )

I totally understand what you mean with the store clerks here, it's like they automatically assume that if you're not an old "ladies who lunch" type or w/ a sugar daddy, that you won't be able to afford anything. Store clerks in designer boutiques here aren't like those in NYC that actually know/love fashion, so they can't tell what you're wearing anyway, even if it's a line that the store carries which is the pathetic part. I usually try to shop in NYC as often as I can, the topshop Kate Moss collection will be on the topshop website starting May 1st and they ship to the U.S. now so yay!

I got snubbed at Saks Mens Store in current season Dior Homme!! I wore a DH shirt and jeans w/ Margiela sneakers and a Gucci topcoat...In DC you have to be real obvious about your sh*t for people to notice, ironically, it was DC that made me become subtle about my sh*t. I mean the top sellers are Dsquared and Gucci, the flashiest brands available.

Just heard that Valise in Georgetown is closing at the end of the month and they are desperate to sell as much as possible. Haven't been there in a while, but they have some cute dresses for women. The men things they have, if any, are uber pretty, so unless you like Vineyard vine inspired stuff, men should probably skip this one.

Also, I thought I posted about Project beltway earlier but it didn't look like it posted. that is a good DC style website too.

How...pretty? Is it like Ralph Lauren prepster or like Facconable italian?

Argh, I meant to go to Valise but I really didnt feel like wandering around Georgetown.

DC just brings out the prepster in me, I went to this shop (near Dean & Deluca on M) that had pink chino's embroidered w/ navy skulls, sooo close to getting a pair, so adorable, I think I might get that print in swimwear though (I wish they had something a little...sluttier in mens swimwear).

Also, JCrew had the cutest boat print in pants and shorts!! ADORABLE, the only issue is the fit is crazy, Id need the shorts made slimmer and the pants let out at the legs, not worth it for JCrew. If they were baggier those boat print pants would've be MINE.

Has anyone noticed that strange statue in front of the Four Seasons in Georgetown? It's sooo creepy, I was visiting a friend there and it caught my eye, very...300 (the movie)

I did have a Croque Monsieur at Le Madeline, ahh, memories.
