J Crew

J Crew sizing is ridic, even a size 0 there is probably like a 4 designer size. I went there yesterday to try to find a pair of decent dress pants and all they had were these ill-fitting cropped "city pants" in like a size 12. It's so hard to find petite professional clothes.

I have the same problem! I cannot say that I am petite, but for US, I guess I am. In Europe, I have always been wearing size 38 and I still am the same size. However, in the US every year I go a size down. I cannot find pants in JCrew any more, size 2 is too large and 0 is too small in the hips. And whenever you go to the store they will have mostly sizes 6-12, it's so strange. In Ann Taylor I am size 0. It's insane. The problem with most stores is that they design female clothes to be like man's and it simply doesn't fit me since, although I am thin, I have hips and waist. However, I managed to find an amazing suit in Club Monaco 2 weeks ago. It was expensive, but at least it fits.

mm sleepy...have you tried Brooks Brothers? They're quite pricey sometimes but you can often get good stuff from them. I'm pretty sure I've spotted a store at Tysons, although I mostly buy online from them

editeditedit: just realized that there's a store at like 18th and M (I think it's on CT ave, right by the Thomas Pink and the stuck up Burberry)

im pretty sure a lot of the stores are now cutting their clothes bigger because, well, average americans getting bigger and bigger each year. my friend who used to shop at banana republic all the time - a 6' 2" skinny dude - stopped going because they dont make his size anymore and they are all baggy across.

work clothes

Sleepy, there's also a Banana Republic Petite at Tysons I that I've had some luck with since they carry smaller sizes and they're cut for a shorter figure. Theory also makes great professional clothes and at Neiman's (Tysons Galleria) I found a lot of size 0 and 2's. It's definitely worth investing in, especially when it's on sale.

Shamigo and chloeaddict, thanks for the recommendations. I'll try that once the weather becomes better. I wanted to go to Georgetown today, but with this weather...

Petites don't work for me because I am thin, but not petite. I never tried BR petites, though. I went to Ann Taylor yesterday and tried jacket size 0 and it was too large! Then petites size 2 was too short.

Thanks for reminding me about Theory, I forgot about them!

Sleepy, we are in the same boat. I will let you know when I find things that work.

If you're as small as I think you are, Theory in size 00 might work. I find that pants in 00 are too short though.

So frustrating.

You might want to try Zara size XS or 34. While size 34 pants are too big in typical "suit" materials, you might have luck with jeans and cotton-ish pants. I found a pair the other day, and I am too small to shop in almost all mall stores (can't do Banana Republic, Club Monaco, H&M, J Crew, Benetton, etc.) and "Barneys/Cusp/Neimans/Saks" brands (DVF, Malandrino, Cynthia Steffe, etc.).

Oh Sleepy BR Petites will NOT work for you if you aren't petite. I am 5'6 and I went there and it was a total disaster. Boxy cuts and short arms/legs galore:yuk:

yes, the same happened in AT for me. I don't even bother to try BR pants any more. I bought really nice pants from Benetton this winter, size 38, they fit perfectly and I got a lot of compliments. European size 36-38 fits me so I will try to go to Sisley and Benetton and see what they have. It's so frustrating to waste so much time on this. [fortunatelly the weather is like winter so I can still wear old clothes] :)

CFDA designers for Gap

Has anyone checked out any Gap stores in the area today for the limited-edition cfda designer "white shirt" pieces? I'm trying to decide which Gap in the area would have the best selection, thinking probably Tysons since that's one of the bigger stores or maybe G'town.

omg...definitely was right there--went to reiss today--and did not check! ugh. i would also love to know which gap to go to..:)

Gap

On the website, it says that the G'town, Conn. Ave, Chevy Chase and Tysons Corner locations should have it. I haven't checked it out yet, will do sometime today hopefully.

Marni sunglasses

I know that Relish in Cady's Alley in G'town carries Marni clothes but not sure about sunglasses, so you can check there. Good-luck and let me know if you find them b/c I"m also looking for a great pair of sunglasses for summer.

Anyone have a good tailor in the area that they can recommend for women's clothes? I'd prefer a woman tailor if possible. Thanks!

Thanks Chloeaddict! I see they have them on barneyscoop.com but not in the Georgetown store. If you find somewhere they has good sunglass selection please let me know too! I am looking for something out-of-the-box.
