What are the best cities to Work in Fashion ?

What cities would you guys say are the best to work for new fashion graduates in the world?

if you want to work in one of the most expensive cities in the world with nearly no pay and ALWAYS overtime that is...

I think Antwerp is better for designers either getting education and just starting out or those that are already really well-known (Dries, Bruno).

And I don't think that there's much work for those who aren't in the actual design aspect.

But, I could not know what I'm talking about!

Milano and Paris are excellent choices, but the problem with those cities are that it is very difficult to work or get a job in either of those cities unless you speak the domestic language.

I wouldn't say so. At the moment I live in Orange County and have been to LA a few times. Fashion here in California is soooooooo much different than fashion in europe. They have a different type of fashion here and don't even dress the same as people in Europe. Everything here is less "high-fashion". totally different market.

I tend to agree. However, we do have an active apparel industry here ... a garment district (recently renamed "The Fashion District"), even several fashion week venues and some exciting designers who are up and coming. But it's geared towards denim, swimwear, sportswear ... with only a smattering of higher end stuff. We have some designers that you would know from the red carpet, celebs and things like that ... Monique Lhullier, Kevan Hall, Juan Carlos Obando, Jeffrey (I forget his last name) from Cosa Nostra, Nonnie Trochtman (sp?) and others. But most of it is more about producing clothes for the average Amercian ... one of our big producers is, in fact, American Apparel. So that's why I say we have an apparel industry here ... not a fashion industry.

Good points made. I was on a fashion show in LA two months ago and there where some very skilled up and coming designers who design pretty good collections. But like you say LA has a very big apparel industry. There are jobs in fashion here only that it's different. Still there is a handful of designers here who would easily blend in amongst French and Italian designers

I think, fashion-wise, many Americans look up to LA more than they do say, London, or even Milan. But in the end, LA's not an international fashion city, just a national one.

If u ask me ... definitely le chic et marveilleuse Paris!
But Asia is cool too... especially here in KL...
