Yes, the album was completely unexpected! As much as I like his folk sound, this new... 60s rockish alternative edged folk (I really can't think of how to better describe the sound of the album...) is something he's pulled off so well, that I, like I said before, just can't sit and listen to the old ones because I know I could be listening to his better songs on Cripple Crow. Not to say I don't like his previous albums (Rejoicing in the Hands especially), I just haven't been in the mood for them. I think Long-Haired Child is the one I like most, but I love the Simon Díaz cover as well, and Korean Dogwood is simply wonderful, as well as When They Come (which I've played over and over and over... the guitars sound amazing in that one), and Hey Mama Wolf.

i know, the beatles song makes me smile for some reason, it's lovely and tacky at the same time . it's so true what you say about his previous work but i feel like i understand them a little more with the new one, i couldnt listen to rejoicing or nino rojo from beginning to end, let alone oh me oh my and the black babies session which were extremely complicated for my stupid ears and i was done with one song per day but while listening to cripple crow i feel like i can get into those more easily now..still in low rotation but they dont get in my nerves anymore .

i hear you on la foret, it's been my favorite album to go to bed with for some time now..
