The Life of a Showgirl doesn't have any great songs on it, but I still think it's a good album (better and certainly more memorable than any pop album this year, other than Gaga's Mayhem, which is very, very far in the lead)
I'm kind of divided when it comes to the discourse. Do I love hearing internet terminology coming from Taylor? Not really. So I agree it's jarring to hear phrases like "did you girl boss too close to the sun?" or “I can make deals with the devil because my dick’s bigger" or "I'm not a bad b*tch, I'm not a savage" in a song from someone capable of, I would say, lyrical genius. At the same time, I think those lines are being presented deliberately without any context by people who don't care for but for some reason care a lot about Taylor. In each case, she's either quoting someone or poking fun at the culture/discourse. They're not in earnest. It's a bit cringe, but the willingness to be a bit cringe and uncool is part of why she's so beloved and has such a big-tent fanbase. It's crazy to me that someone can be releasing their 15th #1 solo album and still be gaining in popularity.
Anyway, the songs from the album that I've added into regular rotation are: The Fate of Ophelia, Opalite, Ruin the Friendship, and Wish List.
