What Are You Reading?

Life has been too busy and I have been super lazy reader.
Yesterday I started reading:

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

The Dud Avocado by Elaine Dundy

Really recommend it to everyone, it practically reads itself, and with such humor!

I loved that one! So funny - I can't believe it was written in the 50s. I've got The Old Man and Me by Dundy as well but I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet.

Currently reading The New Moon with the Old by Dodie Smith

Oohh... I've wanted to give this book a go for a while now, it sounds quite good. What do you think of it so far? I love Dodie Smith's writing style too, I Capture The Castle is one of my all time favorites.

I just finished it last night. To be honest, I didn't care for it nearly as much as ICTC. It was very similar in tone, but all of the characters in this book got on my nerves. I was charmed by the first half, but by the second half I was ready to be done with it.

I'm now starting Vile Bodies by Evelyn Waugh.

Currently in the middle of 3 books:

Flappers and Philosophers by F. Scott Fitzgerald (a collection of his short stories)

Steal Her Style: Fashion Icons and How to Get Their Look by Sarah Kennedy

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Currently switching back and forth between two books, Across The Universe by Beth Revis and Bossypants by Tina Fey. Both are really good so far.

The Devil Wears Prada - I've seen the film, so I figured I'd read the book to see if it's better.

When I was younger I really liked that book but I'm almost afraid to pick it up and read it again, I don't think it will be the same as I remembered. I think part of the reason why I found it so interesting was because I read it around the same time I picked up Vogue for the first time so I felt like it gave a tiny glimpse into the magazine industry (a very glamourous glimpse!).

Hi Yoninah! I can't get over how different it is from the film, and I am only about 1 third of the way into it. For example, her boyfriend is a teacher of special needs kids; her best friend is a scholar of Russian literature; her parents are included! Etc... I think the film has a similar tone, but clearly it's only loosely based on the book. I prefer the book already. :flower:

By the way, I guess she wrote a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada that was released in June of this year, and which is called Revenge Wears Prada: the Devil Returns.

Has anyone read it?

It looks like most of her books since her first one have been panned by critics!

I'm working on three books at once.

The Brothers Karamazov (on audiobook) by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Loving it. Naturally it gets a bit heavy at times with all the philosophical musings, but they rarely get tedious or overbearing. Plus the rest of the story is very engaging.

1984 by George Orwell. A bit repetitive in its explanation of the Big Brother and with some of its ideas. Also heavy on the social commentary, obviously. But I'm enjoying it. I'm generally a fan of dystopian books.

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Just trying to get to the finish with this one. It's completely uninteresting to me. The characters are unlikable. The story is tedious. I was expecting something far more exciting.
