What Are You Reading?

"something borrowed"...can't remember the authors name, but i think some of you might like it-you know the best friend you have who always manages to compete against you and somehow come out better every time? With her clothes, hair, job, boyfriends! even if she's not actually better than you, you probably might think she is. Anyway, in this, the protagonist Rachel, who always fells like a lesser person compared to her best friend, ends up sleeping with her spoilt best friend's fiancee, except she doesn't come off as a b*tch and you even end up rooting for the pair to get together. It's set in New York which makes it even better. If you love chick-lit you'll love this.

"Norwegian Wood" by Haruki Murakami. I like his style of writing - his characters are usually deep youths disenchanted from the modern soulless world, yet his writing is full of existentialism that manages to be warm instead of leaving a void.

Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice.......actually, I'm just re-reading the good parts.

yes, being very, very brainless and reading Clueless. What I need right now is blond perkiness..to perk up my mood..

Dude, Clueless is such fine literature!! :P

I'm reading the South Beach Diet and Clinton's My Life.

The Crimson Petal and the White. I remember EW calling it the best book of the year a couple of years ago so when I saw it half off I bought it and it's 900+ pages so its taking me forever to read (I've had it for like a week and I'm on page 425) but its good...

A Choice of Angels I cannot remember who it is by. It's about a muslim girl and a Southern minister's son in love. Very interesting to say the least.

The good thing about my job is I've been getting a lot more reading done lately. So far, I've been through three Agatha Christies; The Third Girl, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, and another that I'm forgetting the title of. Also Echoes from the Macabre by Daphne du Maurier (my favourite author after Oscar Wilde). I'm currently reading a newer book, Brick Lane by a first-timer named Monica Ali. And I'm saving the (hopefully!) best one for last. Artemisia, by Alexandra Lapierra, which is about one of the rare female painters of the Renaissance. I actually had done a project on her before, and she has a fascinating life story, so I'm really excited about reading this one. :woot:

that's a really good book :woot: it's a pretty heavy, academic read for fiction, but since you've studied artemisia gentileschi before I think you'll appreciate it :grrr:

right now I am reading the reluctant empress by brigitte hamann, a biography on empress elizabeth (sisi) of austria.

At the moment i'm reading How To Be Good by Nick Hornby and 1984 by George Orwell.

I just love Nick Hornbys wittiness. Oh well. :woot:

I just finished reading the devil wears prada by Laura Weinsberger (sp?). I'm about to start reading The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

^ I LOVE the great gatsby, one of my faves!

I'm now reading... Hostile Witness. By someone. :P

Did you like The Devil Wears Prada? I thought it was pretty hilarious but at times I found myself thinking that Andrea was being too whiny. I mean, if she hated the job so much she really could have just quit and started working for the New Yorker like she wanted. I think she was a bit masochistic.

I loved The Devil Wears Prada! I thought it was funny at times too. I thought that Miranda was being a little ridiculous (sp?) with her needs. I mean why have someone call a person when you have the number right there with you.
