What are you using now for sun screen?

Is it never sunny in Denmark?

I have heard fair people should wear sunscreen even on cloudy days.
I have heard the same about sunnies and I try to do that but also end up feeling like a weirdo.:ninja:

Nivea SPF 40. Yes it's very high (especially since I live in Britain!) but I don't want to risk any damage to my skin and after years of hating looking so pale, I've grown to like it...even if I am white as a sheet.

I'm also really pale but I don't want to tan, I don't look good with a tan at all and I'm horrified of sun damage, can someone reconmend a sun screen that is high in spf and doesn't cause any darkening/tanning of the skin? I'm not talking about burning I'm referring to tanning. I'd be most grateful.

are we talking suncreen for tanning on the beach or just when going out in the sun?

if going out, how do you use suncreen while using make-up and all that?

La Roche Posay Lait Veloute when I have time to wait 20 minutes before i apply makeup or leave the house

Clinique's City Block SPF40 for after gym or days when I have to get ready quickly

I just use a Cancer Council one for the body (in a spray) and a daily matte Sunsense for my face.

It's pretty basic that the closer you are to the equator, the more harmful is the sun. And therefore you need less SPF when you're closer to the arctic circle...which I am. And yes, it's very seldom sunny Denmark

^ Didn't mean to sound so dense. I know you are not near the equator.:p

I am just super nuts about sun screen and would likely still slather myself head to toe if I lived at the North Pole.

I must admit that the weather has been pretty summery this last week, I have even tanned :innocent: Now I'm just freckled  I made do with SPF 15, mostly because that was what I had, but also because SPF seriously reduces the production of vitamin D...which I really needed after a long winter with flus and pneumonia. Wearing high SPF every single day can actually result in low vitamin D-levels.

Actually, it does. There's nearly no difference between SPF 15 and SPF 20...except maybe for the price :p
A SPF 15 blocks 93% of rays, a SPF of 30 blocks 97%. A 20 would be about 94%, so there is a slight difference. Everyone should wear sunscreen even on cloudy days, and if you're worried about low Vitamin D levels, take a supplement. Skin cancer isnt pretty.

Men Science TiO2 Sunblock SPF 30

It's pretty expensive, but it's the only sunblock I know of that doesn't leave my skin shiny or feel overly heavy after I put it on. Anyone know of another sunblock similar to it? Light, non greasy, matte finish?

You really don't need it up here on cloudy days, as I said before. I think I have read somewhere that 20 or 30 minutes of sun exposure every day (without SPF) is enough to keep the vitamin D-levels up.

But honestly, it's not common to die from skincancer in Denmark unless you've spent a lot of time in tanning beds. It's not recommended by Kræftens Bekæmpelse (kind of a fund that you can donate your money to, and then they will spend it on research) that you should use SPF in the winter at all - the sun is less powerful up here, and the days are very very short. They also recommend SPF 15 for Denmark as SPF 30 blocks only 5% more:

Yet skin cancer is somewhat common, my mom had it too, but only because my parent's generation didn't care about sun block. They spent all day on the beach without SPF all summer long...I must say that it really shows on my mom, that's why I don't tan more than once a year :ninja:

You will hardly get skin cancer in DK if you don't wear SPF in the winter.

I just bought a new sunscreen today: Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Body Must Sunblock (SPF 45). My friend uses it and I tried it at her beach house and loved it! It doesn't clog my pores at all, doesn't leave me feeling sticky, and it goes on really easy.

BUT this May was the sunniest EVER in Denmark (hours of sunlight wise) since they started keeping records in 1920! :D

... Not that I wear anything here but sunscreen on my face either. :ninja:

I know, it's fab :woot: Not for the farmers :ninja:

Of course you should wear sunscreen in the summer, but it really isn't neccessary in the winter...I mean, you've been here

I use Shiseido makeup, they sell it at all major dept stores and the makeup in the blue containers has SPF 42 in it. So there is not need to worry about applying two things and its super soft, you cant even feel it.

And as everyone else said the Neutrogena with Helioplex everyday!!! And not to pick but there is no way SPF 15 is going to keep you from not tanning, it might prevent a burn, but you will still tan! Trust me I used to wear that at the beach and Im not too fair skined and I got burnt to a crisp!
