I'm into anybody brazilian right about now. :) (but that'll change shortly...:p)

trenchtown rock

Im on a serious roots reggae kick, listening strictly to reggae circa 1980-1985.

gregory isaacs [secretary, private beach party] {lovers rock}
yellowman [soldier take over, the girl is mien {with peter metro} mad over me/shortsies]
black uhuru [fit you haffe fit]
barrington levy [under me sensi]
wayne smith [under me slengteng]
johnnie osbourne [water pumpee, put it by number 1]
early B [circle jamaica]
derrick lara [peek a boo]
sugar minott [tek a set; level vibes; buy out the bar] :woot:
frankie paul [pass the tushengpeng; worries in the dance; just dont want to be lonely] :o

....you know- roots dancehall dubwise rockers & yardstyle reggae just before the digital sound came in & then the very first digital dancehall tracks [slengteng, under me sensi] with synth bass & drums etc that revolutionized reggae & lead to the mechanical dancehall sound that imo changed reggae for the worse circa 1985.

my fave jamican music will always be from mid -60s - mid 80s, when they still used electric bass & real drums - instead of synth bass & programmed drums [the digital style].
the tempos were slower & rootsier in the 70s/early 80s. the dance hall & digital style brought in hyper-kinetic fast tempos that alterered reggae forever.

They have some ace songs excepppttt I can't bear listening to the COSMIC amount of swear words they seem to be able to squash into one song.

lately i've been listening to a lot of orchid, probably too much.

as far as bands go i really like japanther, panthers, tokyo sex destruction, dollhouse, the kills, yaphet kotto, das oath, total fury, bunch of others.

i mostly like drum'n'bass though. seba & paradox... for teh win!

Mostly Bright Eyes, The Cure, Pearl Jam, The Smiths and norwegian band called Madrugada

hmm.. lately really excessively listening to

pinback, blonde redhead, bright eyes aswell, sleater-kinney, ...and you will know us by the trail of dead, vive la fête, ratatat and soulwax.

oohh and the german indie band KETTCAR (yes yes right, i am kind of trying to hype them ;) )

Right now im really into The Mars Volta. Who are Madrugada? What kind of music is it they do?

Recently I've been hooked on that old Siouxsie and the Banshees song "Isreal"

Agree with all your bands! :woot: (except for 2 or 3 that I don't know) I especially love the last album from Soulwax

You all seem to have quite similar tastes in music... I will probably really stand out here. I guess I fall for some of the more commercial stuff sometimes--I still manage to find incredible emotion in it.

Celine Dion
Faith Hill
Barbra Streisand
Michael Buble
Julie Roberts
Frou Frou (probably the most 'alternative' music I have found and loved, so far)
Tina Arena
Alan Jackson
Norah Jones
Frank Sinatra
Nat King Cole
Harry Connick Jr.
India Arie
John Denver
James Taylor
Keane
Lionel Richie
Maroon 5
Sade
Shania Twain

..etc

ahhh I see. I think the full cd is gonna be out at the end of the month...haven't heard anything off it yet.

Sardine...I love your choices too. Just recently started listening to pinback and ...trail of dead. Blande Redhead is one of my favorite bands...EVER!!! I was obsessed with them for like...an entire year.

Jane Siberry, Heart, U2, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Jesus and Mary Chain, Billie Holiday, Richard Ashcroft, Rush, New Order, Skinny Puppy, Delerium...and to fill my need for cheese...Wilson Phillips.
