What is Emo?

I have heard this about this trend being very popular in highschool, but I dont understand it.
What does it 'mean' or could anyone post pictures of this style of dressing...

I think it means 'Emotional Hardcore', its a type of music, like Funeral for a Friend and My Chemical Romance. Generally bands with really long names seem to be emo.

It goes along with people in tight black hoodies with dyed black hair and 'flesh tunnels', those earings that open up big holes in your earlobes.

emo- a type of music that is pretty much centered around teen angst associated with middle class suburban living - ie. my life sucks because i live on a golf course, my parents don't understand me, my hot girlfriend smoothers me, i'm locked into going to such n' such private/ivy league university and i drive a VW jetta to school everyday. woe is me. i need to rebel against my seemingly perfect life because if I do not, I can never break the shackles of wanna-be perfectionistic suburbanites.

bands associated with- Embrace, Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate. Mainstream Emo - Dashboard Confessional, Coheed and Cambria, Saves the Day, Jimmy Eat World (none of which are true emo, but merely emo-esque....)

the look- long bangs in the front of your eyes, referdable dyed black or black with streaks of red. thick horn rimmed glasses. a perpetually pouty look on their face. thift store finds in terms of clothing, as drab as you can get without wearing rags. preferadably a stolen/ bummed cigarette hanging from one lip. and forget to shave.

You may be listening to emo if you're hearing...any dude on the radio or in music videos with an obnoxiously nasal singing voice whining about pointless crap over cliched "punk" music. It is the most annoying sound ever. Give me Britney Spears over anything emo.

Okay okay. The whole 'what emo looks like' b.s was bound to get on my nerves. haha

I adore the emo genre music. and No i do not put my hair in my face and wear sh*t loads of eyeliner or whine around asking everyone to feel sorry for me.


blah blah blah. even those kind of kids get on MY nerves. The emo look and the emo music shouldn't always go hand in hand. those kids are..obnoxious.

I really don't like Emo but, hey, that's just me.
Emo songs are annoying to listen to, and I don't like how they're all about "oh I'm so sad cause I love this girl and she doesn't love me" and that kinda thing.
