What Skin Care Did You Use Today?

I've just discovered Peter Thomas Roth and his products are well worth trying. I have his vitamin k eye cream, abit pricey for the small size it comes in but its packed full of amazing ingredients and worth investing in if you suffer from dark circles. Dermatologists seem to recommend it too.

I have yet to try to Olay regenerist. Derms have done a study on it and have said that it is infact better than La Prairie!!!! Below is a little study that was done on the olay regenrist night treatment cream.

This moisturizer contains some excellent ingredients: niacinamide, palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 , dimethicone and many other hydrating ingredients, vitamin E and green tea. Niacinamide has been found in numerous independent research studies to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmented spots, red blotchiness, and skin sallowness (yellowing), and increases elasticity. Palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 (in concentrations between 2-8%) has been found to individually provide increased collagen synthesis and natural production of hyaluronic acid in the skin. Vitamin E (tocopherol acetate) is an excellent antioxidant with a high environmental protection factor (EPF), and green tea is established as one of the most potent topically applied antioxidants as well.

This just proves that we shouldnt get sucked in by all the marketing rubbish out there. Its not always about what you pay for, some cheap brands can be better and more affective.

Acid- Whats DMAE? I know that Dr Nicholas Perricone is affiliated with it and he uses it in his products but thats about it.

dermalogica precleanse
dermalogica special cleansing gel
dermalogica overnight clearing gel

I have 1-2 'blind spots' on my jawline, so my beautician suggested I try the overnight clearing gel, but on the bottle it says to apply to freshly cleansed skin... Does that mean I skip toning and moisturising, or to I apply over moisturiser?

Acid- Just been doing some reading up on DMAE, sounds like something im desperately in need of! What percent do you use and where do you get yours from?

Belowen-You can apply over moisturizer this overnight gel, just use moisturizer in that area a bit more sparingly.

marya-a-DMAE on Google search, a TON of info will come up, but I know I remember first hearing about this ingredient from Dr. Perricone.
There's also info about it and you can purchase it at www.makeupartistschoice.com

Here is an article on DMAE http://www.smartskincare.com/treatments/topical/dmae.html

My issue with olay regenerist is that while it may have some good ingredients, they are often in too low of concentrations to do any real benefit. When researching a product I not only look for studies on the ingredients but also try to find out the concentration used in the product and in the studies. For example, I've read many studies on vitamin C using 10-20% concentration, while some creams use under 1%.

^ Thanks...thats the first article i read when researching DMAE, it gives a thorough insight into DMAE.
How do we know the level of concentration in a product?

Many products have it listed in the description of active ingredients, if not you can email the manufacturer and about half of the time they'll tell you. Besides that, I don't think there's much you can do.

dr Perricone used 3% dmae in his studies but I believe the highest concentration in his products is 1%. Personally I decided against using it since there's no evidence it can help prevent sagging, just help treat it, and it may cause cell death. So far it seems the benefits outweigh the negatives but there haven't been any long term studies so I don't want to risk it when I don't have any sagging to correct.

It may cause cell death!!!!!! I havent come across an article mentioning that...I read that DMAE is an antioxidant. Its a simple amino base with a synethetic analog of the B vitamin.
Their have been studies on DMAE but it has not been compared in any published studies to established anti ageing ingredients like retonoids and AHA's.
Here's a brilliant article..btw I am in no way affliated with this website (lol). Its a very good site by a budding dermatologist :)

These are the ingredients in the Olay night cream but like you said how do we know the level of concentration they contain in order to be beneficial?!?

Ingredients in Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Treatment

It's not known exactley how dmae works but some think it just causes swelling of the skin. It's highly alkaline so some people have reactions to it. I'm on my iPhone and I can't find the article I read that goes more in depth on it's dangers but here is a different one

http://www.healthcentral.com/skin-care/c/38641/16152/dmae-cell-death/

one of the dermatologists talks about the benefit from dmae coming from the skin repairing controlled damage, revealing fresh skin. This is true for retinoids, peels, etc, but they only damage cells and don't kill them which is why I'm conserned about the long term affects dmae. There hasn't been enough research, but it seems to me like it produces a good short term result but may result in more ageing long term. Although that's just a hunch since there's no research either way. It specifically kills fibroblasts which are a key structural component if skin like collagen and elastin.

Thank you for your posts, guessgirl96. I can 'sense' your passion about skincare in your posts. Where do you plan to go to school for becoming a dermatologist? It's something I've considered as well. I would love to attend UCLA and take their cosmetic chemistry courses, but first I'm going to check out Pepperdine in Malibu and/or Santa Monica CC.

I've been a slacker with my skincare this entire past week. I have almost a full beard I need to scrape off.

For day:

Clairins Day Cream
Clairins Eye Contour cream

For night:

Clairins gentle foaming cleanser
Biotherm Biosource moisturizer

It's a simple regime, but it seems to work for me :)

I use DMAE powder which is 30%, i use a small scoop of it mixed with my moisturiser and it disolves into the liquid and then i apply
the results are 100% instantly noticeable but its hard to explain exactly what the difference is. younger looking for sure though

Hydra Bebe Cleansing Facial Wipes
Clean and Clear Deep Action Cleanser
Clean and Clear Daily Pore Cooling Toner
Aveeno moisturizer

Where do you buy the DMAE powder Acid? And just blend it with your day/night cream and then press in? Tell more!:flower:

i buy it from amazon.com its by a sports nutrition company and you get a lot of it, i also put it in my water before i go running.
sometimes as soon as i get out of the shower i'll rub some of it into my face whilst its still wet and it dissolves in right away.
i have to say that when i use DMAE on my face i must look younger or something because i get hit on 1000% more than if i didn't. i actually look younger now than i did 5 years ago.
i've attached a pic
