What to wear instead of flip flops

^I agree. Definitely ballet flats!

but...if it's really hot and I'm feeling extra extra lazy, I'll just wear slip flops.

Bump!

I do not like ballet flats too much... I have small, short, but somewhat muscular legs... they just don't suit me. :( Though I do own flats.

I prefer to go with a prettier flip-flop... I like to call it a sandal... I have tossed all of my cheap flip-flops (or save them for wearing around the apartment).

I also love mocs...

Here are some nice sandals that I've been looking at:

Metallic Capri sandals ($54, photo from jcrew.com)

Some nice flats... from jcrew.com ($128)

I've always condemned flip flops  Aside from making the most irritating and uncouth sound, they don't flatter anyone's feet!

That said, ballet flats can be really uncomfortable in very hot weather (especially for those without a car!).

Anthropologie has really fantastic albeit expensive sandals!!

I don't like the way thongs look on my feet, so I haven't worn flip flops since I stopped taking dorm showers :p (This was after leaving the dorm btw ;))

Instead, I wear ballets, sandals, strappy mules, espadrilles, or mesh ballet-like walking shoes.

There are shoe options other than high heels, boots, and David Bowie space platforms?

Hehe.

No, seriously, that's all I wear. :shrugs:

I never wear flip-flops b/c I think they just look super messy. Of course, this doesn't apply to all flip-flops. I'm mostly thinking of the cheap rubber ones from Old Navy. I suppose the Tory Burch ones are quite cute, though...

I would wear flats, skimmers, or sandals that have more aesthetics than flip-flops. Flip flops are only necessary for water activities.

I got some to-go flip flops when I got a pedicure this weekend because my sandals wouldn't work with wet polish. They were so ugly

I live in FL so flip flops are the norm here. I do love my Havaianas, but I only wear them for running quick errands or to the pool. Otherwise I will be wearing some sort of sandal, ballet flats or wedges. They can easily add more appeal to an outfit, when flip flops can look too casual.

i truly avoid wearing flip flops .. except when going to the lake or beach 'cause it's far more comfortable then.
so most of the summer+springtime i wear ballet flats or sandals

My flip flops cut in between my toes real bad last week. I was wearing them because my other shoes had given me blisters! So yeah I need flip flop alternatives for the summer!

i have always worn thong sandals...
very classic...like what jackie onasis wore while in capri, italy...
that sort of thing...

* it really bugs me that some people refer to these as flip flops...
flip flops are rubber-period!...
:ninja:

i guess a number of people will be sporting gladiator sandals this summer..
and some fringed flat sandals as well...

:p

I think I may be the only person on this forum who loves flipflops but so be it. There is nothing i enjoy more than wearing a classic pair of hot pink havianas. It's practically my trademark. I enjoy flip flops so much I wear them around my house in winter. I'm not joking! I actually think wearing flip flops is about the rest of the outfit. If you are wearing a tracksuit, um yes, they look sporty or sloppy. But I like mine with skinny jeans or a pair of wide legged jeans with a blazer, it's more of an interesting choice than heels or something else.

Anyway, sorry this is my defence against flip flops and not suggestions! I think every year there are more and more options available. I find heels quite hard to wear in the heat if you are walking more than like a block. Gladiators, ballet flats. Maybe check out K. Jacques for other sandal options which are flat, chic but not flip flops

i normally live in plimsoles, canvas pumps, gladtiators, birks, thong sandels.. i never wear the rubber type of flipflops though :( allthough living in england i can normally get a away with most things its rarely very hot haha

plimsoles is a great suggestion. I love them. I love old school tennis shoes as well.

^^ me too i live in my school pumps .. you know the black ones with elastic on the front .. as well as lace up ones and old man deck shoes haha .. so so comfy

Flipflops are brilliant as beach footwear. But if you're in the city - unless it's a really summery day and you have a TRULY gorgeous pair, they can look a wee bit scruffy imho. Personally I think gladiators are cooler :D
