why does it have to be limited to these designers?
I think any disussion about who are the greatest influence on fashion has to be done according to a certain time frame, this is because of the fact that the way people dress changes over time.
to answer the question though, the three most influencial designers over the last five to seven years have been
1) tom ford--- whatever he did not design he provided a platform for designers such as McQueen and Ghesquire to be able to work and reach an audiencew on a level the had never reach before. I remember before McQueen was bought by Gucci he was not carried at Barneys in new york and the stotes thst carried him only stocked small amouts of clothing from his line. After the sale to Gucci, Barneys picked up the line and the other stores broadened thier offerings from him, such was the influence of tom ford
2) alexander McQueen- the low rise pants wont die, regardless of how much high waisted pants you see on the runway. the problem with high waisted pants why they wont come back is they make your A-- look too long and your torso too short as if a womans waist is right up under her bust!
it was McQueen who single handedly stated the craze for for low rise jeans with his bumster pants
3) i first heard about nicolas Ghesquire in 1997 knew he was going to be great. yes, he copied Philip Wong Nark's patchwork and he found the brown leather jacket he redid at a vintage store (cardinal and almost unforgivable sins in my book) However, his influence on fashion is undeniable the bags that are worn by most women today are largely as a result of hisinfluence skinny jeans are his cargo pantsarehis, bomber jackets are his and so many other garments that dominares today's modern wardrobe
