Why do you like / hate Lanvin?

I've read some interviews of him through here.. I think Elbaz and Lagerfeld can be similar in some respects.. the need to be alone, enjoying the work and shunning the attention at idle parties... Maybe it's a similar behaviour in talented designers, this being introspective /introversion

Well, being an introvert also gives them something in common with you and me and 25% of the population  Does Karl really shun attention?

Oh but he does do something with his personal style ^_^ Did you know Ashton Kutcher (am I spelling that right?) stole one of his cravats and wore it to a red carpet event the next night?

Alber's personal experience makes him a more sympathetic/empathetic designer, whereas Karl's extreme weight loss has done nothing for his soul :innocent: You may recall his very rude comments about women wearing sizes nothing like as large as his own previous ... amplage (I think I just made up a word ...)
heh didnt know bout Ashton copying Alber...i feel bad for saying what i said... he doesnt have to lose weight like Karl (tho maybe he should for health reasons...) id just like to see him less all over the place, thats the impression i get, and its often something completely opposite of his stylish and compact designs.

lol i kinda agree bout the line with karls weight loss and his soul, but i like that hes like that now ^_^

i hate lanvin. it's far too expensive for stuff i could find at costco/walmart/valu village for 25 cent

You must be a very talented Wal-mart shopper :flower:

Maybe you could post a side-by-side comparison of some of the comparable items?

of course i could...

flopy velvet bow tie - wtF??? looks lyk sumthin id find at a bad thrift store.
on that note...y does alber use velvet at all?? it's a questionable fabrik...
dinnar jkts - srsly? dinner jackets??? do we need more of this??? i personally dont get y designers always think they can make a better suit than every1 else...most end up being wak...very wak.

i like lanvin womens
btw i dont mean 2 say i dont like lanvin mens either, i just wouldnt purchase

Ah :P I just meant in the interview he says he would rather work than go to parties, he feel it's maybe unproductive and something else...

I love Lanvin shoes! High heels are just the best, so dramatic!
hate: PRICES!!!!!!!!

Apart from the absolutely couture like quality of the womenswear, his menswear is equally as beautiful. I have to have the incredible high top sneakers in patent and satin!
The fabrics are top of the line but washed or treated in a nonchalant manner and the colors are so EXACT.
I believe it is one of those collections that has to be seen up close, felt, and worn before quick judgements can be made.
It's a very INTIMATE, understated kind of luxury and not to be confused with other hype like design houses.
:flower:

I  Lanvin

for many reasons, but upmost for being always elegant, consistent, wearable, playful with the rigth balance of cut edge and of course the excellence in their manufacture, Lavin is still one of the very few parisian fashion houses that produces almost everything in house, which give to them very high standard quality control, the proper meaning of luxury.

I just didn't like at all the wigs last season...

i adore lanvin! beautiful clothing for sophisticated women. it's never tarty or crass. it's what i imagined i would dress like as a woman when i was a little girl. i loved the resort collection- can't wait to see what s/s 08 will look like!

I love, love, love Lanvin! Thanks to Alber it's one of my favourite brands, he has such an amazing sense of what women need and want, what makes his collection stunningly gorgeus each time. Always beautiful, feminine and desirable clothes - 10/10

I love Lanvin, especially the dresses.  I can't really give a specific reason why. It just fits into what I love clothing wise.

^ And even still, you almost want to let that go because the clothes are worth it in the end.

Lanvin is such an abberation, so many people with so many different tastes and styles can still find something to like or appreciate Lanvin. I can't think of any other labels that you can really say that about. That really says something about Alber as a designer.

I love Lanvin because it differs from other high-end brand. Sophisticated design blended with timeless freshness. To me it's a very interesting design house since it lacks the pretension possessed by other designers like Versace, Channel and Prada. No badge just pure design.

But like someone have commented the clothes command a very high price which isn't very remarkable since other designers sell runway wear for very similar prices, if not more. With increasing recognition I hope they won't dip into the same field as Dolce&Gabbana did with D&G, introducing a "budget" label catering to those who just want to the label and don't care too much for the designs.

I like Lanvin for its fluidity. But what I LOVE is the mixture of very Parisian chic with that very thrown-together aesthetic.

This season was a disappointment for me. It looked very cheap and tacky.

Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 were his best for me. The former was classic without being boring and the latter was just futuristic but without being too robotic.

I love Alber and listening to his interviews and I love how basic yet how complex the clothes are. I also love lanvin from the 1920s

its like Givenchy , for some reason it gives off the parisian spirit , where as givenchy gives off the gothic black clad parisian woman the lanvin woman is embellished and wears fur and uses her mothers pearls as costume jewelry which i LOOOOOVE

Long Live Alber !!!!!!!! Lanvin would be nothing without him , hes like karl lagerfeld , he made the brand what it is !!!!! his character suits lanvin , plus i love his little wiggle when he does his bow after the shows

Lanvin . . I can't say I love or hate Lanvin. I'm "/". In the middle.
Elbaz's Lanvin reminds me of Tisci's Givenchy because they are both brands that don't quite do it for me.
Of course, there are some individual pieces in each collection that are just glorious, but their general collections don't turn me on.
Lanvin is a bit better than Givenchy for me, actually . . I prefer the aesthetic, but I'm never dying for either collection like I am other Parisian's, like Balenciaga or the Italians.

Some of the silk dresses Lanvin did for spring are simple and stunning, and others I think are awful. The same happened last spring.
