Why do you like/hate Versace?

*Bump*

It's been over a year since anyone has said anything in here. I was wondering what people think now, as there has been quite a change at Versace. With Christopher Kane working for the label and Plokhov in menswear.

I love the new Versace, the past f/w 08.09 was one of the best in that season. I can't wait for the spring collection, but I did read somewhere that is similar to the last spring collection which was a little forgettible.

I love everything about VERSACE. They make women look beautiful and that what´s about. Every collection of them is for me a dream and makes me very happy person, cause there´s always so much style and Beauty in it that i can´t even explain.

2006 was the best year for Versace. Both Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 were brilliant collections. They were the perfect combination of class and sexiness.

Everything since has been an utter disappointment. Fall 2007 was terrible, Spring 2008 was very kitschy and Fall 2008 was boring (except those printed dresses).

I hope she can create something NEW and forward for Spring 2009.

We stopped using this thread at S/S 2009. What are your opinions on Versace since S/S 2009?

I think Donatella has done a really good job cleaning up the label. You can definitely see her moving forward.
Although I must agree with many people that Fall 2009 was such a step backwards after so many successfully fresh seasons. I still liked it though, it had some key Versace trends. Thigh high slits, low necklines and LOADS of attitude.

I'm NOT too keen on the S/S 2010 collection. I mean it's pretty and all, but I think that's the problem. It's just pretty, full stop. The collection seems to lack some depth no?

What does everyone else think?

i dont love it or hate it
i appreciate it, it's very classic very sexy and you will never be disappointed!
But it would be nice to see Donatella break out of her shell a tad more, but who really cares when you'll always be satisfied and the clothes look beautiful. I don't like Versace bags though... a bit to tacky for me

I personally enjoy every collection of this brand. The ready to wear collections are always nice to watch and of course all the stunning gowns never disappointing.
She definitely change when it comes to HC collection, it´s much wearable but still high class.

I'm the same. I can't bring myself to hate Versace, more like I love some collections more than others.

S/S 09 was fabulous. I loved the low ponytail, the zips and hearts, but the printed bathing suits were my favorite

F/W 09 was beautiful. Hands down, the final gowns were the show stoppers. The red, high slit number on Vlada and the turqoise on Lily D were uuuugh  The trousers are so well tailored to the models legs, and I really really fantasized about owning a couple of the trenchcoats especially the charcoal one on Coco and the brown one on Anna. Also, the metal belted dresses in Lily D and Bruna were closet favorites.

S/S 2010 I loved. The prints and Alice in Wonderland references in some of the dresses were clever. I admit that as fabulously high the shoes were, paired alongside the gowns they looked a little clashy(?). Individually I love them though. The gowns of course were my favorites. The final white gown with the triangular geometric design on the side was my favorite.

So all in all I just love Versace, whether it's a step forward or back or left to right :p I just wish some of the runway looks could actually be sold in the boutique here.

I will always love Versace and Donatella no matter what she's gonna do next!
I started to follow fashion after watching the SS04 show,it was just love at first sight,I loved everything, the strong attitude, the fabolous clothes, the sexy signature gowns and the accessories.

I think the weakest year for Versace was 2005,because both collection lacked of attitude and glamour, especially the spring collection, which is my least favorite.

2009 was a pretty good year! The spring show was so great, innovative and unusual for Donatella. The zippers and the heart detail were sexy and cool but edgy at the same time.It was more focused on younger clientele.Although the fall show was weak,of couse it had all Versace signature pieces like the high slit gowns,I also liked the pop of neon colors!

2010 could be a decisive year for the brand's identity.Versus has come back showing some pretty interesting things and the main show was so UNEXPECTED,it reminded me of the early 2000 shows made by Gianni, cool, young, fresh and SEXY!Hated the casting though

So after all...I LOVE VERSACE!

although i wear very little of it, i do believe that versace has become one of those big box designers that truly creates something for every consumer. while i understand that the ready to wear stuff doesn't suit all tastes, versace suiting and separates has become more-than-mainstream and its red carpet output works on every type of woman -- witness the conservative january jones and the voluptuous blake lively both rocking versace at the emmys in suhc different ways. also, since they took on plokhov, the menswear has never looked classier.

also, there's something to be said for putting forward something consistent with a brand. if one does decide to partake in the ready to wear fantasies, there's no more trademark look than a versace look. it rivals the heaviest hitters for the most identifiable looks. for those of us who know something about fashion, it's enjoyable to watch, but for those of us who might not know so much, it's an easy way for women -- and men for that matter -- to co-opt a total look and actually look pretty decent in most situations. that's what good designerwear should do.

Donatella cracks me up. you know it's hard trying to continue this when her brother was murdered.

Donatella hardly disappoints me and she has been doing so well with the Versace brand.

Spring-Summer 2008 was the collection that got me interested in Versace/fashion in general and was and still is one of Donatella's most beautiful collections IMO. When i saw the campaign picture of Gisele wearing a Turquiose mini dress, i was like........WOW!!!

Ever since, Versace has become my fave label and is my inspiration. The 'new' Versace woman is how every woman should aspire to look like and be. Confident, Glamourous, Luxe and effortlessly sexy! S-S 08 was the collection that stole my heart, but since i looked back at previous collections.......S-S 07 has to be the 'comeback' of Versace! That collection is when everyone started to take notice of the brand again.

Here is my rundown of the recent Versace collections.

S-S 2007: This collection was fresh, futuristic, and i loved the prints and colours!

F-W 07-08: The colours and styling of this collection was beautiful! So classy and the gowns were stunning as always.

S-S 2008: AMAZING collection! Loved the safari references and the colours were TDF! Really proves that less is more because there was hardly ANY embellishment and the collection was STUNNING. Hair and make-up was beautiful too!

F-W 2008-09: This has to be one of Donatella's best Fall collections so far! So effortless and the colour palette as always was just lovely. Also loved the printed dresses and the fantastic platforms heels!

S-S 2009: Another hit Spring collection from Donatella. This is my 2nd fave Spring collection from her after S-S 08. The zippers and hearts were just fabulous and so innovative! I liked the prints in this collection even more than F-W 2008-09. The collage heart dresses were more like pieces of art/HC than RTW IMO.

F-W 2009-10: This collection wasn't as instant for me as all the previous but grew on me and is very beautiful. I think the hair and make-up at this show ruined the overall look for me but there were some beautiful trench coats (especially the fuschia one) and evening gowns and the platforms (with the cute baby Blue soles) were fab! Overall though, definitely not Donatella's best work.

S-S 2010: This collection was also not instant but has grown on me and rather quickly. The negative factor has to be the way Donatella abused the prints in this collection. If she had kept the prints to a minimum like she did with S-S 09, then this would be better! The shoes look like they could be really hot, but the there are just way to many prints on some of them and overall, they just look too overdone. There are some stunning pieces though, like the evening dresses and the more minimal daywear (with less print) This collection reminds me alot of S-S 2007 with all the silver embellishment.

This is not my fave S-S collection as i know Donatella can do even better but it's still hot and i'm hoping that the Fall collection will be even better!

Good:
If worn properly, Versace can be amazing, and easily the best, at making a woman look sexy and feel luxurious, without coming across as trashy (maybe it's because a woman is currently designing) or snobby (they're pretty good at not being a logo-wh*re brand). The accessories are amazing, and the evening gowns are killer and the shows and casting are awesome

Bad:
If worn the wrong, way, Versace can come across as trashy (see Blake Lively at the Emmys this year) or snobby (but that's usually if you wear the brand literally head to toe and just like it is one the runway). Sometimes there can be too much going on-prints (I hate printed pants because unless you're model thin, they create such unflattering bulges), cutouts, fabric, etc. Also the colored fur they sometimes use is so ugly to me

Well, in general, even though I listed more flaws than pros, I still really like the brand, don't get me wrong ^_^

^ I'm really annoyed at Blake Lively for wearing Versace. The dresses she wore were such powerful dresses. They carried a great amount of attitude in them and therefore require the exact amount of attitude to pull off.
Blake Lively stood in them looking like a homeless man, with sloppy poses and silly smiles. She tries too hard in my opinion and has degraded both the Versace dresses she wore, ESPECIALLY that knock out red gown on Vlada.

I couldn't agree more she looked awful. very trashy something that I think certain people think of when they think Versace. But if worn properly Versace is sexy and powerful with no trace of trash. She should not have worn that dress... and if she had perhaps she should have it fitted to her body a bit better. Looked sloppy!

^lots of people loved her in that dress, however. myself included.

^Actually I think a lot of men liked her in that dress ;):p
I completely agree with Squirzee

Another distinct quality about Versace is that every woman wears it her way. That can be good or bad.
I think a lot of people over-analyze how to wear it, and that's when it starts to go down. Of course you should think about how to wear it, because it is quite a privilege, but don't think to hard, because it just won't work out in the end, and that's VERY noticeable.

I think Blake looked great in both Versace dresses. I don´t see any bad things about wearing this. If she doesn´t look good who else should wear it. Miss Piggi or Lady Gaga??
Normally the Ready to Wear collection are made for normal people, just like Blake. Only because you´ve seen the dress on Vlada or Yulia doesn´t mean no one else looks better in it.

Okay, my take on Blake (that rhymes lol) is that i think she pulled off the Versace dress that she wore to the Met Gala better than the red one she wore to the Emmys. The hair was a big no no for me and ruined it!

At the Met Gala, the simple ponytail and gorgeous make-up really set off the dress.

The thing is, stars like Eva Longoria and Eva Mendes could wear Versace all the time and never look trashy. I guess it depends on what Versace piece you wear and how you wear it!

Of course darling, Eva or Charlize or even Jlo would be look great in this dresses. But imo Blake did it well.
