Wisdom Teeth

I had my wisdom teeth taken out and I was under general anesthesia... I only had 3 though - anyone else had an odd number of teeth? (I have lopsided wisdom )

My teeth and gums are so, so sore. I'm tearing up just thinking of the pain they're causing me. The pain is always there, but night-time seems to be when I experience it the worst.

One side of the top row of my teeth (where one wisdom tooth has come somewhat through) have completely moved and I have buck teeth now with a big random gap that I've never had before... so much for 2 years of braces :(

Has anyone experienced tooth movement as a symptom of your wisdom teeth? I've actually been to a dentist and orthodontist last year, and they just recommended a retainer to push the moved teeth back - which is just added pain.... They didn't even mention the possibility of it being caused by wisdom teeth

And all this pain is making me clench my jaw constantly, which again, is just making everything worse.

^ It's pretty much the same with me. Just that my teeth haven't started to move (until now )
I also had braces for 6 years. And when I got them removed, my dentist said I'll probably have to remove all of my wisdom teeth because if they come out, my whole dentition will be switched again!
So I'd have had the braces for nothing.
Until now I was in the lucky situation that nothing happened, but I have to go to my dentist soon to check them - and then probalby remove them in summer :ninja:

My sister got lucky and her dentist told her that her wisdom teeth will not grow so she doesn't need surgery. I don't know if my will grow but I'm really hoping that I'll get lucky too

I'm in so much pain from by bottom right wisdom tooth right now.
All of mine have penetrated my gums for almost over a year now and are pretty much half or more exposed but this one is just being an a-hole. I don't want to become addicted to painkillers

DEFINITELY get your wisdom teeth removed. When your teeth/gums/roots get infected, the infection can travel to your heart and cause a lot of problems! My mom is a dentist and she always recommends that whether or not your wisdom teeth cause you discomfort, that you should get them removed.

once you get them out, you don't have to worry about it ever again. it's definitely not worth putting up with all the pain!

I had one of mine removed like a year a year a go or something. It was really good to Get it out and it didn't jury at all but i kinda lived on pain killers for a while. Also There was a lot og blood>_<

I only have 3 as well, I had none left when I got an x-ray last year  Mine were easy to pull out, so there was no need for general anaesthesia.

It's funny reading this thread. I don't think it's normal in Denmark to get a prescription for pain killers just because you got your wisdom teeth removed, they just tell you to take an Aspirin or something similar. And if you ask for a prescription, they'd probably tell you to stop whining. It's very rare that you go under general anaesthesia because it's SUPER expensive. And since we have to pay for it ourselves, well... :D

I'm also surprised to see that so many people get their wisdom teeth removed by an oral surgeon. It's necessary in some cases, but dentists should be able to remove most wisdom teeth without problems. And if they can't, they refer you to an oral surgeon. You can't just go to an oral surgeon in DK, you have to get a referral. I do realize that dentists may be trained differently in other countries, but in DK there's no danger in letting your dentist remove those suckers.

BTW I wonder where my 4th wisdom tooth is. :D

It's actually more and more common these days for people to have less than 4 or no wisdom teeth at all.

I work for a general dentist and one of the biggest problems we have is drug seekers.
RX drug abuse is becoming such a big problem in the US.
Some of the people that come into our office deserve Oscars for the performance thy put on trying to get RX'd drugs.

You need a referral to go to and Oral Surgeon in most places in the US too.
I know where I work they don't do a lot of extractions b/c a lot of people like to be put under and there is extra insurance to carry if you are doing that to people.

^We don't have the problem with insurance, which basically explains it. Thanks, you've been very helpful :D
