Women in Politics

I read her bio years ago and i have to say i was impressed she is a strong intelligent woman, but i have to say her style is very limited as expected for a woman in Politics.

I like this from rosie.com

Does anyone have her Vogue cover and spread?I would love to read that article.

it's true she is a little older, and it's also true that many women in Congress are not fashion icons. on the other hand, she isn't a typical politician. The females in the Kennedy clan have good style; Caroline Kennedy and Maria Shriver are also older but do well with the urban sophisticated look

anyway, here's a start for the Vogue cover (Dec 1993)

Maureen Dowd commented on the article in her column, you can get an idea of the content --

In Trinny and Susannah's book, The Body Shape Bible, they put Clinton as the only example of a Bell-shaped woman they could find in the world of the famous.
Apparently she should be bulking up her top half the balance the bottom.
Other key pieces... a bulky gilet to rebalance the top half, shirts cut close to the neck, kaftans, side-fastening loose flowing trousers, an eyecatching necklace and a ruffled shirt...

but i like the look she has...it's strong and confident

Thank you for the photos of Elizabeth Kucinich. That is one beautiful woman...

And though she doesn't exactly make the best style choices (she's young, she can do it!), she often looks very natural.

But perhaps that is off-topic in this discussion... maybe we're in need of a Women in Politcs thread?

Maybe we should change the topic of this to "Women in politics"? :)

segolene royal

im surprised that no one brought up segolene royal, the socialist party candidate who lost to nicolas sarkozy in last year's presidential election in france. definitely one of the best dressed politicians in the world.

isnt a bell shape the same as an pear shape?

i think that she wears too many pantsuits...i think that her suits and pants need a little bit more of a younger cut to them...

I adore how Michelle Obama dresses-

Me too she is one stunning woman, and her style seems less conservative then other womens in politics.

I actually think it's good to have a thread on political women's style. I think it's hard for a lot of women in politics in America to dress in a way that people think is appropriate for the job, but also is up to date and current. I think a lot of what Hillary and Nancy Pelosi wears is great. I would prefer it to be more modern but hey, what can you do

I personally think there's a place right now for a stylish politician woman. Additionally, not only do I think it would be acceptable, but I think it would be almost revolutionary if a woman came through who had great style. I think there's a gap right now and someone could really benefit from that. I don't see why a politician can't be fashionable. Imagine the buzz she would've gotten. It would set her apart from others (in a good way, IMO).

Of course at least at first, there would probably be backlash from ignorant people who would be dismissive of someone being into fashion, but I think if she had a great head on her shoulders and knew she was doing in the political sphere, even the haters couldn't hold that against her. At the same time, it could be like her niche. There's probably a whole group of people who may not care that much about politics, but seeing her in fashion magazines, they'd probably come on board.

I don't think any of what I just said made sense, because I know I'm not explaining this properly, but eh.
