1. Balenciaga:
Très magnifique. Baroque opulence met rock 'n' roll in Nicolas Ghesquière's powerful paradox.
2. Calvin Klein:
Francisco Costa's most self-assured collection, all about white and discreet embellishment and the incredible lightness of being.
3. Dolce & Gabbana:
From Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, a farmland romp with corsets, gingham, lace, and fresh-faced maidens in heat.
4. Donna Karen:
Quintessential Donna: drop-dead gorgeous dresses, intricately crafted jackets, and jolting abstract prints.
5. Fendi:
A potent dose of chic and Parisian whimsy in a decidedly pretty collection from Karl Lagerfeld.
6. Marc Jacobs:
A celebration of unfettered American style based on structure, volume, and the sober attitude of a slightly wayward schoolgirl
7. Prada:
Another dazzler from Miuccia Prada, whose serene ornamentation speaks softly but carries a big wallop
8. Proenza Schouler:
Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez's fresh take on decoration: a beautiful blend of purity and romance.
9. Rochas:
Gentility and elegance wrapped in a melancholy air—Olivier Theyskens' quiet triumph of fabulous fashion.
10. Tao:
Tao Kurihara's ode to the trenchcoat, artfully assembled from crocheted doilies, lacy napkins, and embroidered kerchiefs.

What do you think were the top ten? To me, this list is very predictable on their part.

But Balenciaga was the best collection I've seen so far for that season. Dolce & Gabbana was pretty amazing too.

Calvin Klein was boring for me!

I agree, Balenciaga was amazing. All I'm saying is it seems like they always choose the same designers over and over again. But, naturally, that's up for debate! :P

I have to start paying more attention to the spring shows.

What were your favourites, dulcedeleche?

Disappointed in their picks. Where is Lanvin? I can't deal with Donna Karan and Proenza being on the list. Balenciaga is the only one I agree with.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I was shocked they didn't include Lanvin.

Let's see....my picks were ones a lot of people disliked. These are the collections that were by no means spectacular (except Balenciaga) but that I could see myself wearing. Or just absolutely loving.

Balenciaga,
Moschino,
Paco Rabanne
Vandevorst
Dior Homme
Cloak (for men I know, but I loved it)
Alexandre Herchcovitch
Luella
Jill Stuart
Libertine

(As you can see my picks are not wonderful by any means).

Definitely agree on Balenciaga, and I adored a lot of pieces from Dolce & Gabanna, but Calvin Klein? Donna Karan? Tao? I liked Calvin Klein a bit more than I usually do, but still, to me it was dull. The rest the list mentioned were nice, I thought, but didn't blow me away or anything like that. The list definitely seemed predictable, as dulcedeleche said.

I don't mind most. Dolce and Gabanna seems a little strange as does Tao. I liked Tao it's just odd to be on this list. I think Lanvin should be up there as well, otherwise it's the same old same old. no suprises.

tao is a strange pick for them...
adn the dolce show was just weird...:ermm:

donna karan had a great season...
and lanvin had a bad one....
i agree with that...
proenza and costa for klein had their best seasons to date...
also agree on that...
fendi was good for the first time in years...
but prada bored the pants off me...
and then rochas put them back on...^_^...

i'm disapointed that vera wang didn't make it...:(

I LOVED LOVED LOVED Balenciaga. Dolce and Gabanna also. They were both out there but I loved that. The show inspires me to be in the mood for fashion. I much prefer runway shows that have more exaggerated pieces that don't look like it can go straight to the store. I think runway shows are suppose to set the mood and not so much be a realistic experience.

Luella kicked tail this year, I was suprised at how many tFs-ers didn't like it. Then again, sometimes it seems like some tFs-er can't get over Lanvin to really like anything else.

Sans Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs, the list is pretty accurate to me. I really disliked most of the NY shows this year.

A comforting thing for me, seeing a collection like Tao being chosen... though less because I agree than because I often get the feeling so many smaller collections are all but overlooked during the selection process. :ninja: :P

It lays some fear to rest...

That list is totally stupid. Proenza? Please... At least no one's pushing tragic Zac Posen in our faces this season. It's so embarrassing when these lists try to incorporate American designers (because they are the biggest advertisers) in a season when NYFW was the biggest, most pathetic laughing stock.

i'm surprised to hear you say that metal...
i actually liked a lot of stuff shown in nyc this season...
and i usually don't...

paris was the big disappointment for me...
i had really high hopes...

*but balenciaga was the best and biggest surprise of them all...!!
a masterpiece!!!...
i so wish i had been ther for that show...
i would have choked, it's so beautiful...
...

....

I think outside of Roland Mouret and Calvin there wasn't much in New York. Donna Karan was better than usual. What else is there?
