Crikey! I get that it's a Willy Vanderperre cover, meaning 'clinical, bare, raw' would've been on the moodboard. But this is even more severe and blindingly whiter than Gigi's Elle Canada cover? Is this a thing now? It just doesn't make any form of impact on me, I'm afraid.
The over-exposed quality of the lighting is quite jarring at the same time it does create the illusion of eerily smooth, texture-less skin.
Perhaps that was intentional? I suppose overall lighting manipulation is less misleading to the eye/psyche than outright targeted, fillling in of wrinkles, pores etc. I fiddled around very briefly with Photoshop in design school but was never very keen on the entire premise and motivation of it's use to enhance/ completely alter human faces and bodies.
I do wonder who has control of retouching; if it is indeed "post production" or does the entire creative team ( in addition to the photographer) involved in the given shoot have some kind of input?
I do find it interesting that in fashion editorials "simple" is most often used as a byword for austere minimalism.
Anywoo I do love the way Kate's meticulously groomed brows mirrors the descender in the WSJ. logo. Even the period in WSJ. appears to be leading the eye to her mole. The only source of shadow in the form of liner rimming her eyes.
