Yohji Yamamoto Menswear S/S 2026 Paris | the Fashion Spot

Yohji Yamamoto Menswear S/S 2026 Paris

My attention was for the audiences sitting around instead of the clothes lol. More Syte by Yohji Yamamoto than Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme.

^^^^ ...But the casting! Stellar cast: Delicate and masculine at once, the bone structure on this gang of Pre-Raphaelite waifs is unreal and the stuff that sets models apart from the mere mortal.

Awesome soundtrack: Like Nick Cave and his muse whispering sweet poison in your ear. I never thought Diana Ross and Lionel Richie could ever be topped, but this cover is deservedly in league.

What a mood.

(The collection is actually the freshest from Yohji in a while. The wispy drapes and crepe layers and still giving a distinct, directional, strong silhouette. I wouldn’t wear any of it but there’s no denying the disciplined, restraint and masterclass skills are still potent in this brand. Unfortunate when the print, slogans and headpieces make their appearances and drag the effortless magnificence that came before it down down down LMFAO)

^Surely, the casting and music choices are phenomenal (even more this time) — that's the things that always keeps me from ever disliking a Yohji menswear shows.

surely yohji would be saddened that all his efforts to bring awareness to very serious and important global issues were set aside by members in order to discuss the casting instead...
some people on this planet seem to be broken and perhaps past saving...

this was beautiful and meaningful and poetic and artistic and deeply moving...
i cried like a baby...

"what a wonderful world this could be..."
"no more war"...

i hear you Yohji...
i'll meet you in the depths of the sea...
thank you for all the beautiful and free flowing garments to keep us dreaming...

j'adore all the prints and all the footwear as well...

🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

the runway as the ocean was a nice touch...🌊

** i recommend watching the video...
this is a message to the world from a man who has seen the aftermath of the atomic bomb and is nearing the end of his time on this planet...
people would do well to pay attention to the messaging...

Yohji can do whatever he wants...literally...
and he CHOSE to do this at this moment...
i have to wonder if Limi was in the background pushing him to do it...
:magic:

Both can coexist, I think. I cannot imagine someone with the kind of humor, humility, not seemingly judgmental personality and sensibility that Yohji has shown throughout his career, having tunnel vision and being completely oblivious towards the vehicle in which his messages are carried out for better or for worse, and by that I mean a fashion show, a fundamentally extravagant, exclusive and totally unnecessary way of selling products, in an industry that is increasingly polluting.

@Phuel kind of feel the same.. I usually gravitate more towards his menswear than womenswear and while there's nothing in particular that got my attention, the silhouettes and lightness and just how elegant he manages to make the process of dressing for hot sticky weather.. beautiful!. His casting is always my favorite.. whoever does that always picks just the right amount of personality and poise that shines in his clothes. I don't know who this model is but walk + peaceful energy.. I just want to wear whatever he's wearing. 🩵

Also I never learned the name of the person designing at Ann D but he should take notes! this is how 'flying strings' are supposed to look, more utilitarian, and not like you walked out of the restroom with toilet paper stuck all over you..

^^^ Both can, of course. But frankly, I find “No more war" rather all so embarrassingly simplistic, and don’t care for his “message”— not because I’m a warmonger/fashionmonger LMFAO …Because I don't need a fashion legend (as humble/kind/gentle as he may be) to remind me what a 5yo already know… no more war LOOL And written on his expensive clothes at that, to boot. I understand Yohji devotees can be like the Beyhive; they’ll make it personal if they sense that you've dared to criticize their Queen. It’s just all very secondhand embarrassment/cringe to think that there’s a customer who will pay designer prices for a garment with a “message” as painfully naive, as cliche as “No more war” on it, and be convinced that they’ve contributed to some conscientious, profound, enlightening statement. Write your own message, express your own thoughts, on a Hanes tee: It’s a OOAK and it’s cheap. How about “No more hatred”? “No more greed”? “No more corruption”? And most importantly— “No more worshipping fashion designers and their slogans”?

(Anyway, the first 3 looks are really so strong: The concept of a black suit— stripped of any traditional construction and proportion [and without turning it into a a silly caricature], save for the slight shoulder padding, and revisioned as a light as air flyaway tee that's layered over another light white shirt, worn with matching flowing light pant, is an execution in light and volume beautifully realized, and one that will look as gorgeously striking on a tall, willowy woman as it does on these men [and you no longer have to go topless in the heat…] Had the other following looks been in a solid color-palette, even in his signature B&W, the silhouettes, the drapes, the flow, the layers would all be so much stronger. The colors really are intolerably hideous.)

on the rheology of YY.
40 examples that YY is liquid.
to wear it is to let it flow.

i'll meet you in the depths of the sea...
yohji lost his father in the war. the troopship which his father was on had been hit and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. and still down there.

the seasonal theme or title tends to be something unspecific or universal so that the audience can relate more to the collection in their own way, or the collection can resonate with them in a multi-layered way. and the composition does always seem multi-layered.
but the subtext may be something like to my dad.

yah- the sh*t doesn't have to sell babies...
the whole company is selling so much stuff it's ridiculous...
the point is if you have a platform- USE IT~!!
and yes! Phuel...- write your own damn messages on everything you see...!!!

yes- the whole world of fashion is nonsensical...
and yohji is a funny guy...

and then there are moments like this one...
the fabric choices are so intentional...
i love how some of the models must have been told...
"just stand there and sway a little..."
:P
yohji has to be seen in motion in order to be fully appreciated...

and i don't know who is doing the prints lately but the whole company has had incredible stand out prints across all the brands...
all unique while being familiar and so specific to the YY ethos...
so impressive...

i love all the colors...
i feel like the prints are refined and punk at the same time...
i  that~!

when i say i cried...i mean i sobbed uncontrollably...
so much beauty and so much pain...
typical yohji while being entirely new...

i also love how the whole bunch of those fashion folks were held captive while yohji's song finished playing until he would come out...
maybe he was just running behind but i like to think of his shows now as performances...these are his stages where he can do whatever he wants...
he can literally do whatever he wants because the rest of the company is carrying the sales pressure and i just love that for him...
i like to think he was thinking-
'let them wait... my song isn't finished yet...
the show isn't over until i say it is...'

he managed to remind us how gorgeous the oceans are while delivering a serious message...the lightness, the flowing, the breeziness...i still can't get over the colors...just stunning~!!

and there isn't a bad angle...so many pics have come out online from various vantage points and they are all better than these images...even though these are perfectly fine...

i didn't know the details of his father's death... multi layered meanings for sure...

while I don't know who did them here, chikami hayashi (aka taishi hayashi) is someone known for having done some iconic print designs for YY. not everything though of course.

the last two looks. the model with the black seaweed hair might secretly act as yohji's father whose hair was still black back then.
seaweedy maybe because he didn't want to make it so serious.
endless love because he didn't want to make the scene completely weepy.
as usual, he likes it funny and humorous in some way.

back to black - going down to the bottom of the sea, "where the water isn't even blue any more and the sky is only a memory".
