Yves Saint Laurent S/S 09 Paris

I guess this person wasn't keen on the collection

OK,I like the airy feeling of the fabrics. The styling is decent.
never be a sucker of the silhouettes of the outwear.
Pilati's YSL girl is more nonchalant than YSL's.
the shoes are hideous.
overall better than last season.

After mulling over this show...I think Pilati is actually becoming less and less YSL.

I really think his first collection, SS 05, is probably the truest to YSL DNA of all his collections (although his 2006 period was also good, and SS 07 felt very deliberately YSL). It was the perfect amount of fusiness, sophistication, easiness, sexiness, and it was probably his most confident and playful statement with color (and what's more YSL than fantastic color). The colors were bold and clever and REEKED YSL. Even the set and the music of the SS 05 collection felt YSL...honey colored, herringbone wood floor, the sexy Letta Mbulu song...

His recent obsession with non-colors, harem pants (Stefano...enough, you've been doing them for 2 years straight), minimalism...it just doesn't feel particularly YSL. The music and the sets, as well, feel a little personality-less. I mean, I certainly don't want Pilati to reproduce the archives, but I just feel like his most recent work is lacking that YSL spark...and in a way, his last few collections have been relatively dull because of it.

I think you hit it on the nail Dior , it feels less and less YSL , reproducing archives is not good but modernizing them and making them your own is the best thing for a house. His first collection was the only one which had YSL in it and IMO was his best . YSL was known for making great pants and blazers , Pilatis obsession with incongrous harem and 7/8 pants coupled with sloppy blazers and dull hospital room colors is getting very old and tired. What makes this even more tragic , YSL died this year , out of respect pilati could have made a show more characteristic of his work (YSL) as a tribute . Pilati makes great accessories but YSL was known for making sexy strong clothes not just accessories .

I guess this collection lacks Yves vitality & energy, I find Pilati Cruise & pre-fall collections are simply more YSL than the 2 main runway collectios ... maybe because he tend to experiment & analyze more in the last ones where there are more theory& philosophy????

I felt Yves spirit was more presence on other disegners runways....

I saw a beatiful tribute to YSL in Marc Jacob collection for Louise Vuitton S/S 09... Full of Yves energy & vitality... there were alot of YSL vocabulry : the african art, Indochine, cubism & the Opium colors , blouson jacket , comfy pants.. all mixed up in an easy & spontaneous way .. even the hippie accseories looks as if they were designed by Loulou de la Falaise.

even Alber Elbaz collection for Lanvin could be be refrenced as a simple, fresh & young YSL.
