It appears that fashion It boy Zaldy Goco has quietly parted ways with L.A.M.B., Gwen Stefani’s pop chic clothing line, The Daily has learned. The downtown club fixture and former runway model originally worked on the line as a consultant when it launched in 2004, but he and Stefani saw so eye to eye that she asked him to step up as head designer the following fall, which resulted in one of L.A.M.B.’s most successful seasons to date, with its debut fashion show on September 16, 2005 at the Roseland Ballroom ranking as one of the season’s hottest tickets: Gavin Rossdale sat alongside Anna Wintour and Lenny Kravitz in the front row, while Naomi Campbell strutted the threads on the runway.

The collaboration has since spun a line of handbags with LeSportsac, a less expensive range called Harajuku Lovers, and most recently a deal with Coty, Inc. to launch a fragrance named L. But according to a design source inside the company, despite the success of the overall brand, reaction to the clothing line has been less than ideal. “It’s just not doing as well as it should be,” the source offered.

Another cause for the split seems to have been Zaldy’s involvement in numerous side projects, including his namesake line. The fashion darling made a name for himself as an image consultant for such companies as Donna Karan and M.A.C and as a stylist for both screen and stage, creating rock-worthy looks for Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and, of course, Stefani herself, most recently working with the Scissor Sisters on the costumes for their sophomore tour. “I think he just had too much going on for Gwen,” speculated the source. A spokesperson for L.A.M.B. declined all comment on the split, as Stefani was not immediately available.

Zaldy did Harajuku Lovers too?

Anyway, I hope this doesn't impact the future of the line.

i wonder who will actually design it now? if it even survives without him.

btw, zaldy did a great job outfitting jake shears in bruno pieters' recent brilliant menswear at the Brit Awards

Oops...What are they gonna do!
I'm sure they will find a replacement, Might not be the same without him!

he is an exellent designer............
one of the best in NY, but he doesnt get a lot of support here.
Not much attention was paid to his collection before the L.A.M.B collaboration.
Wish him all the best............

i think that zaldy brought the tackier element to L.a.m.b.

i hope that andrea lieberman will be promoted to head designer.

i think zaldy is a better stylist than he is designer,to be perfectly honest. i never cared much for his creations. i think the only thing i found relatively interesting was his sense of draping.

I agree, his styling work really is fantastic, though you think it would be able to bleed over into design since he has a seemingly innate sense of what works on the body...

So all the L.A.M.B designs aren't Stefani's hand? :o Oh, I've been cheated...

you wouldn't have expected otherwise, now, would you? most often, these fashion-obsessed basically mere shopaholic celebs who rely mostly on stylists thinks that deems them qualified to be a "designer". gwen,no matter her taste or style is no different than J.Lo.,really.

EXACTLY, this really upsets me, now everyone thinks they can have a fashion line, just because they have a great stylist... good for him, she was taking all the credit (not that i liked L.A.M.B. stuff but it's his work)

I actually love L.A.M.B, regardless of who designs it. Well actually, I like the sportswear moreso than anything else - tracksuits etc.

Everything else seemed to be a ripoff of all things Marc Jacobs - I may be wrong, that's just my perogative. I hope that this doesn't affect the funky look of their sportswear.

I may be a fool for actually being shocked that gwen doesnt design most of her stuff. I mean, I know the whole deal with celebrity designers like J.Lo (bleh) but was I being silly to believe all the interviews with Gwen in which she said that she designs as much of her stuff as her team does?

Considering how reflectant the line is of her style, it's hard to believe that she doesn't. But whether she does or she doesn't, I'm sure she has more say in the line than someone like J.Lo does with hers.
