nobody would deny ziyi zhang is successful no matter on career or on love (if you name it love). but her obvious ambition is easy to make people uncomfortable. you find nothing wrong as she is only a hard working girl, just, don't like it.

Eh, I think she and her boyfriend look weird together, but it's her life, and no one really knows about her unless they know her personally. Maybe she fell in love and he happens to be rich and older. She's not the first person to date rich men. A lot of actresses date financially well-off men. I don't get why she gets all the hate. Did she sleep her way to the top? Maybe she did, maybe not. Unless there's video or something, we'll never really know. If she did, she certainly wouldn't be the first in the business to do so (not that I condone it). There are lots of Asian men in the business who are with lots of women, yet I don't really hear the public calling them sluts. A bit misogynistic, IMO. I just don't understand why all the hatred is pointed at her when there are equally "offensive" actresses. The whole "every Chinese knows she's a sl*t" comment smacks of immaturity and high school jealousy. I was aghast when I read about some paper criticising how she squatted like a poor person (when she was reaching for a book or something). Ridiculous. Being poor is akin to being a bad person? And don't get me started on people in China making fun of her English and ridiculing her on not being as fluent after taking lessons.

In any case, I think she looks lovely in recent pics. Her day-to-day candid style's a bit off, but she looks great at events.

I disagree that the "every Chinese knows she's a sl*t" remark is immature or petty. The wording of it could've been different, but what the poster is trying to say rings true.

I live half-way across the world, do not regularly keep up with the Chinese entertainment industry, and yet I've still heard a lot about the negativity and allegations surrounding her again and again.

She is remarkably disliked by the media, and what I assume to be a large sector of the public, in China. The Western media doesn't have a lot of coverage or interest in her as those back in China do, hence the lack of gossip and tabloid articles about her.

Yeah, the media hates her, and she's a huge target. I'm just curious to know why she draws such venom from the public and media. I wondered if I'd missed something: did she insult China or say something really offensive? I've heard people say they wish her bodily harm and things like, "I hope she gets abused and killed because she's a wh*re and she'd deserve it," which really jarred me. I agree with min-SH that it isn't fact that she's a sl*t (allegations, sure, allusions to it, maybe, but unless we're in her bedroom or armed with evidence, how do we know). I also just find it a bit funny that the poster apparently likes Paris Hilton and doesn't seem to mind the allegations against her. Just trying to wrap my head around the ire around her.

Ziyi Zhang’s Inglourious Earrings

Ziyi Zhang walks the red carpet of the Inglourious Basterds premiere held at the Palais Des Festivals during the 2009 Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 20) in Cannes, France.
The 30-year-old actress made a brief visit last week to dozens of orphaned children and teenagers in Deyang, Sichuan Province. “These children need to know that they are loved and are not alone,” she told China Daily. “Only then will they not feel afraid of society or difficulties in life.”
Zhang is an ambassador for the charity organization Care for Children.
