Zuhair Murad designs Mango collection
08/16/2006
Sunset and the grape harvest inspire this collection in flatteringly feminine patterns and fabrics by the leading Lebanese designer.
Mango has made public its partnership with Lebanon’s Zuhair Murad. The Spanish label, whose collection went on sale across the Middle East on September 1, chose the talented designer for his extraordinary ability to adapt the latest trends to oriental tastes.
The collection includes 18 complete looks, all coordinated with accessories like bags, footwear, stoles and costume jewellery. Zuhair skilfully combines garments in diverse styles, offering sophisticated easy-wear designs devoid of excessive ornament, though with a defined personality. In his collection for Mango, the designer picks up on a constant feature in all his work: meticulous fabric selection and clever layering. He uses silk gauze, cotton voile, taffeta, velvet and satin adorned with rich embroidery, lace, rhinestone and crystal for glamour and elegance.
This initiative confirms the strategy adopted by the Spanish label which aims to broaden its scope with superior, design-led collections like Mng Exclusive Edition. These are targeted at women willing to pay a premium for higher quality clothing without losing the characteristic Mango style.
Mango embarked on its Middle Eastern expansion in 1997, when it opened its first store in Kuwait. It now has 46 shops in the region, in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Dubai, Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman and Qatar. It plans to open a further 20 shops over a two-year period and boost turnover in a market which currently accounts for 10% of its global sales.
