Zuhair Murad designs Mango collection

08/16/2006
Sunset and the grape harvest inspire this collection in flatteringly feminine patterns and fabrics by the leading Lebanese designer.

Mango has made public its partnership with Lebanon’s Zuhair Murad. The Spanish label, whose collection went on sale across the Middle East on September 1, chose the talented designer for his extraordinary ability to adapt the latest trends to oriental tastes.
The collection includes 18 complete looks, all coordinated with accessories like bags, footwear, stoles and costume jewellery. Zuhair skilfully combines garments in diverse styles, offering sophisticated easy-wear designs devoid of excessive ornament, though with a defined personality. In his collection for Mango, the designer picks up on a constant feature in all his work: meticulous fabric selection and clever layering. He uses silk gauze, cotton voile, taffeta, velvet and satin adorned with rich embroidery, lace, rhinestone and crystal for glamour and elegance.
This initiative confirms the strategy adopted by the Spanish label which aims to broaden its scope with superior, design-led collections like Mng Exclusive Edition. These are targeted at women willing to pay a premium for higher quality clothing without losing the characteristic Mango style.
Mango embarked on its Middle Eastern expansion in 1997, when it opened its first store in Kuwait. It now has 46 shops in the region, in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Dubai, Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman and Qatar. It plans to open a further 20 shops over a two-year period and boost turnover in a market which currently accounts for 10% of its global sales.

this is all i have for now. i must say that as much as i adore Zuhair's work, i was quite disappointed with the collection. it was poorly made and rather weak. it seemed that the whole collection was done under a great rush and the designer was more concerned about what designs would be easier done in mass production. the worst piece was a plain pink silk top that looked exactly like a nighty. i pretended i didn't see it! that's how bad it was. there were only a few pieces that were worth buying. the rest is better described as commercial / industrial rubbish!

thanks, ameera. i had been quite curious about this collection.

that's weird. surely such a collaboration would have beem mentioned. The collection couldn't have been so bad it bombed...

I love the blazers, I would wear them in a heartbeat. Those shoes are lovely too.

those are the only items i bought.

and you're welcome Lucy29! sorry i couldn't post all items. the woman in Mango thought i was crazy going around with my phone and taking pics!:p

i prefer his HC, too bad he couldn't create affordable lines that actually look decent.

thanks ameera...:flower:...

it seems perfect for the market they are going after...

sort of sexy and shiny with embroidery and embellishments..
not sure it would appeal to any other market though...

I agree with softie you can see it really is for that market. It doesn't appeal to me really but the white blazer does look nice.
