marion davies was quite a tackling person, she did so much. so much happened to her. but i get the impression that those ladies' lives were all very eventful. i'm looking for some books about those era, can someone recommend a few, please? it's going to be a cold winter here and i think something like that would be perfect for the evenings. :shifty: ^_^

some pics from the www.thepcfixer.co.uk and www.silentsaregolden.com (the last one)

These are wonderful Northernsky^_^
I would recommend reading Marion Davies' book "The Times We had", Gloria Swanson's book 'Swanson on Swanson", Barry Paris' bio on Louise Brooks and her book she wrote "Lulu in Hollywood", Marceline Earle's "Midnight Frolic" (she was a Ziegfeld dancer), Frances Marion's "Off With Their Heads", "Marlene" by her daughter Maria Rivas, "Mabel" by Betty Harper Fussell and Errol Flynn's "memoir" he is inventive;) "My Wicked Wicked Ways".

yeah, i got a bit carried away..

thank you so much for those recommendations *scribblesinnotebook* :smartass:
i think i'll look out for "the times we had" first. marion davies knew all hollywood, didn't she? with all those parties she and her husband gave.. oh, and that eroll flynn-book sounds great, i've always loved those münchhausen-stories. and the title is promising.

so.. but for the next two weeks i should stay away from this thread in order to catch up on my thesis'. (what's the plural? :ermm: ) i hope to find a lot of pictures, a lot of stories and everyone happy when i come back. ^_^

I actually bought "The Times We Had" at the Hearst Castle where Marion lived with Hearst  I have been there a bunch of times- one of my favorite places up the coast- if you ever get a chance, go!
They show home movies as part of the tour of various stars all visiting and being silly for the camera. Anyway, they sell her book in the bookstore there.

do we have a thread about 1950s actresses ??

We have a few threads dedicated to specific actresses from the 1950s...I can think of Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren. There might be more. Feel free to start one! :flower:

I was thinking of starting a 1930s actresses thread.....

^ Please start a 30's thread!
I wanted to do so also, but others on this thread (was it you ) had mentioned it earlier and I didn't want to "steal" their idea. So, I've been sitting here waiting...:(

I think that it is a great idea as well :)

Let's start the thread!!!

It might have been me...sorry. I thought classic stars were getting a sub-forum, so I was waiting for that ^_^ . But now I started the 1930's Actresses thread.... :flower:
