^ Are you saying it's flat?

I think she's referring to the fact that centuries ago claiming that the world was flat was a laughable theory, but now it's totally the opposite and has been proven. Similarly, the beginning and end of the universe are also theories. But who knows?

The majority of the world in fact. You see this type of arrogance A LOT in America.

It's not arrogant at all. We can't help the way we were taught to write dates. I didn't know other countries wrote it differently until I started frequenting this site.

I honestly don't understand why people are pissing themselves over something like this. Maybe it's just me but I like to stay focused on the present. But I will definitely take advantage of the countless "End of the World" parties that are bound to happen. B)

You have successfully dug yourself a hole.

90% of the rest of the world have written the date as dd/mm/yyyy for centuries, yet you only just recently found out. I'm not calling you arrogant by any measure, I'm sure you're a super cool person, but just the fact that America seems to be very inwardly focused upon itself. I've been there many times and some of the comments/questions I get from people..... shameful.

Whoa, sorry for a little mess up there, what I meant was that centuries ago saying that earth is round was just a crazy idea (seeing how everyone was completely and absolutely sure that earth is flat) but now we know that it's... well, round.
The point is that everything we know for sure started with a theory once.

^^And even if you initially read it as November 9th at first, you should notice the way the Japan earthquake's date was written...

that's actually a myth , the earth is known to be spherical since the ancient greeks. In fact it was Eratostenes the first person who seized its circumference in the I century BC. In the middle ages it was accepted by the main scientific sources that the earth was an sphere.

^And Pythagoras way before that too.

if you mean that Pythagoras was the first man who seized the circumference, nop , it was Eratostenes.
if you mean that Pythagoras also knew that the earth was spherical then that's what i said, because Pythagoras was greek also ;)

^Oh yeah I meant Pythagoras was Greek and he knew about a spherical earth too. I was just adding to what you were saying...
If I remembered correctly Pythagoras was a few hundred years before Eratosthenes? And he was thought to have been one of the originators of the idea?

Whoa.... This is no way anywhere NEAR the point I was making... But thanks for the info nonetheless, I didn't know that :flower:

yep , you're right. it's believed that Pythagoras was one of the first persons in defending the idea, although his disciples thought the opposite , so it's quite confusing. The first person in adding scientific reasons was Aristoteles.
i want to add that Eratostenes made his experiment in the III century BC not in the I, my mistake.

^ that man predicted one earthquake correctly...you know how many earthquakes he predicted incorrectly?? lots more, just sayin'

9/11/2001
3/11/2004
3/11/2011
could 5/11/2011 play a significant part of a catastrophe?

there's somewhat of a calculated method (from what i was told) that will be of great proportion awaits....

^ AHA! So catastrophes are scheduled on the American date notation system! That's a clue.

;)

Furthermore, throwing in a few tarot cards and rolls of the dice should improve the scientific accuracy of such calculations.

theres some good news to all of this..scientists say wine can help protect from radiation, so we're stocking up here in cali. when the earthquake comes we'll all be drunk, having a blast

...raising the roof, shortly before it falls on your head.

Don't know if it was mentioned before, but the astrologists (however you precisely call it in English) are worried about this saturday, when the moon will be full and it's in the perigeum. The distance between the earth and the moon will only be 364.397 km.

People like to believe it influenced the disaster in Japan etc etc. Will raise the water and bladiebla. Choose to believe it but the moon will be 14% bigger so enjoy the view.
