Let's see, firstly the good outfits. Kirsten Dunst looked cute, I liked the black lace effect at the top of the dress but wasn't thrilled with the bottom. It was nice to see a change though, as others have said, from the same cut of that mermaid dress. Speaking of which, Renee Zellwegger looked dreadful, but I've never liked her much anyhow. Charlize Theron and Gwyneth Paltrow both of whom I don't like as actresses, or as personalities, did look great though. I actually really liked Charlize Theron's dress, it was slightly over-the-top and full of frills and that nice blue colour, and it was different from the typical row of identical dresses. I thought she looked better with darker hair, and I'm glad that Gwyneth Paltrow was also slightly more adventurous with the slight wave to her hair. Who else? Zang Zhi was adorable, I honestly wasn't thrilled with her dress itself, but she carried herself well and spoke with elegance. She said like two lines with an accent, but she seemed less glitzy than the rest of the actresses there, and gave a little half-curtsey when giving out the award. Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis were awesome as well, I'm liking them more, and admiring them more, both separately and as a couple as time goes on. They're so different, but incredibly pulled-together in some way too.
As for the dislikes... mostly just Beyonce and her dreadful, huge hulking dresses and heavily applied, glittering eyeshadow and equally matched singing. Ugh. And Scarlett Johanson, who I also just hate for some reason, she just has this "thing" of constantly annoying the heck out of me. Like how she stood on that balconey, and her left arm kept on jiggling, hah. Hilary Swank as well, and Clint Eastwood. Both of whom I don't actually hate and who seem decently intelligent, and produced some good work, but really, I am just getting so beyond sick of them. Honestly- if I hear her proclaiming that man's alleged brilliance one more time, I think I'll try socking her myself.
The rest of the show was decent, nothing too interesting. Chris Rock wasn't particularly funny, but I have actually never really liked any of the hosts that I've seen so far. They don't seem to make me laugh that much and don't move me. The show seemed quietly this year and I didn't like the format of having everyone line up for the early awards. Kind of embarassing for the lost nominees and sort of as if they were consciously being pushed to the sidelines. One thing though, I am so beyond glad that Cate Blanchett won! ayayayya... Although, she should not have been seated beside Gisele. As great as Leo is and as much as he ought to deserve to have her there, at the Academy Awards, you just do not seat the actress from The Aviator and Elizabeth and Veronica Guerin and Charlotte Gray, beside- what? Taxi and Victoria's Secret shows.
