Accutane

ive been wondering about this...
i am black with light brown skin, due to past acne i have terrible dark brown scars all over my face and back. also i still get typical teen-age breakouts on my face even though i am 22!

at this point ive tried retin-a, proactiv and the antibiotic doxycycline. all were temporary fixes. the doxycycline seemed to work the best at keeping breakouts gone but i scarred worse since it made me more sensitive to the sun, also it made me nauseous if i didnt take it with a huge meal so i nevr bothered to renew my prescription.

right now i am just using a 5% glycolic acid cream at night and occasionally microdermasion. the same gycolic acid cream cleared my whole face for months a year ago, but now its not having much of an effect..weird. i also wear laura mercier oil free foundation during the day (which does a good job covering up the scars)...ive read this is a good foundation for acne prone skin, and none of the others like dermablend, etc. come in the right shade for my skin :/

im wondering, should i ask my derm about accutane? it seems like my last hope. the blood work seems tedious but i am willing to do it to get rid of this once and for all. if you take accutane for a few months does it clear your skin for good? also, does it help much for scars or just make them worse? i already use spf30 as it is, would that be enough to use while on acctuane?

it won't help against your old scars, but it might prevent new scarring from new pimples.

is it possible that I feel depressed after taking those pills?

Definitely. Fairly common side-effect - I'm definitely suffering with it.

I've upped my dose so I finish the treatment quicker - two weeks and I'm done.

Annoying thing is I have three red spots on my forehead and haven't had any for a month or so.

damn.
i still have like 3 or 4 months to eat them. but i feel like i'm not gonna make it that far. everything breaks me down and i just can't watch myself being at this point again.

has anyone tried buying it online? I had a course two years ago and it completely cleared up my skin and now my spots are back~" its horrible and i dont want to have to wait weeks again for a consultation, and i was thinking of buying them online... has anyone had experience buying online and where did you use and what products did you buy??

thank you!! xx

and if ur talking about spots coming back after roaccutane, i have had that issue too. which is why i didnt go for anymore medication..
you know i just thought if that, being SO SO strong, didnt work, nothing else will medically.. for long!
Change ur diet a little maybe?
and exercise regularly? :)

this is just a personal opinion.

but if i had the consultation before and they told me i should go on roaccutane can i not just buy the same dosage again?

it is really damaging me... i need to have clear skin for my job and its making me REALLY depressed...

I eat good and drink lots of water...

but i just have new spots every morning i wake up!! - i have just come off the pill and maybe this is the case.... but i am back on the pill now for two months and it still hasnt cleared up!!

Never buy prescription drugs online, as they are unregulated and may not be what they claim to be.
You'll have to get it through your doctor/dermatologist.

^ yes i agree with daniel.

u know i had the same problem. i kept having breakouts - mostly when it was the time of the month, but i STILL didnt order them.
i know its frustrating and upsetting -trust me. i still have random breakouts sometimes.

I call up my dermatologist and she calls me in to see how it is looking. sometimes u just need to go on a milder medication/antibiotic.
they will tell you.

hun, even if ur diet and sleep pattern is fine, just go see her.. these are strong pills!
u must must must go in for a consultation ANY time this happens :)

but arent u only supposed to have 6 - 8 boxes per PERSON?
3 years is a long long time, thats an awful lot of boxes.
my dermatologist said either 6 or 8, and thats it, u cant have more :|

tbh i was on roaccutane for a v long time as well, but I was always having regular check ups and blood tests- I think in total I used it for 2 and a half years and was closely watched by my dermatologist who is great at what he does- people would travel all around the world for appointments with him. I didnt have any side effects during this time or after but I would suggest that anyone using roaccutane continue with regular docs appointments and blood tests. it has definitely cleared up my skin, I have a glow most of the days but I do get the occassional pimple caused by stress or lack of sleep etc. so it is important to keep in mind that not all factors causing break outs are related to hormones, but your diet, exercise, pollution, stress etc can effect it as well.

I would personally never go on accutane. I work at a dermatologists office and I see kids walking out everyday that are being prescribed with this medicine. It may help many acne sufferers look and feel better about their skin, but if it changing the way your skin looks, an has terrible side effects, have you ever thought about what it could be doing to the inside of your body?

Have you thought about why you have acne in the first place? Acne isn't because of what you do to the external skin, its about whats on the inside of the body coming out. You obviously are eating foods and putting toxins into your body. Are you aware of what kinds of chemicals are in the foods you eat and the skin products you use? Another main cause that is ignored, is stress. And it can also be from hormones changing, which won't happen forever. you're better off treating it organically rather than putting a poisonous chemical like accutane in your body, because that could cause other illness' worse than having acne.

But truthfullly, I have never suffered from acne, so I cannot relate to people that yern for a clear face. I am a huge health nut, so let me know if you have any thoughts or questions.

so my doctor prescribed me the accutane again.. ive been on it now for a week and boy is my skin dry... my problem is my lips... the side f them and cracked and they are scabbing now for three days and nothing is working!... i am front of the camera all next week! argh.... anyone have any quick fix solutions to the cracks at the sides of my mouth?

Thank you! x

call your doctor NOW. you may need a prescription steroid.

same thing happened to me. except i wasnt on accutane. boy, was it awful.

aquaphor healing ointment for lips will help in the meantime.

When I was on accutane I used to get "perleche" the cracks on the corners of your mouth might be the same thing? To get rid of it fast I cleaned them with antibacterial dish soap and then applied LOTS of vaseline like a moisture blocking shield. It worked great. :flower:

vaseline or labello work best in my opinion.

i use blistex (the tube cream), it works like a charm, my lips look normal now and am still on it
