Accutane

Oh my, that sounds terrible! Hope you're better now

My skin is still the same as last week, only a bit dryer. Only my back got worse, it really hurts and I can't move the way I used to. E.g., when I'm putting on my boots my back gets kind of stuck and I have to be veeeery slow when getting up again :(

Little update: my skin is 100% blemish free, I'm so excited :bounce:
I have only a few scars left, but they are already fading.
My back stopped aching (I'm on 10mg/day now, isn't that a bit early to slow down my intake??), but now my head goes crazy and sometimes my ears buzz for hours which is quite distracting.
But that's worth it, I feel so much better!

I'm happy for you :flower:

This may sound like a stupid question, IDK but who do I see in the UK about getting on Roaccutane?

My brother is on Accutane and it's been a week and he's already looking 100x better. He doesn't have a problem with facial acne, but with acne on his back. I know it really hurt his self esteem so I'm so happy that it's working for him.

It was extremely helpful reading this thread. I've just started Roaccutane a few days ago. No side effects until now other than a very dry scalp. I've also noticed that i'm always feeling thirsty.

I'll keep you all updated.

I recommend you to keep your lip corners moist, ones they rip it's hard for them to heal.

I'm still on 10mg and very happy :)

Accutane improved my life beyong belief. all of a sudden i started getting major breakouts a few years back. they were seriously major! cystic acne that i had never had before, and it was very painful. I went on accutane and in about 5 months my skin was 95% better. I now have good skin! Its not perfect--but whose is?
as mentioned before, it is a serious drug. bloodwork every month, incredible dry skin (it hurt to take a shower) my face would occasionally bleed, my lips were cracked, and I broke out on my neck! people would stare at me! it sucked!! (it really helps to have support when u use this drug)
Not everybody experiences these extream side effects--thats important to note. If I did not use his drug i would have deep scars, and because I went on it in time, I dont- so, its important to see your derm if u have severe acne (or even a few cysts)
If you are properly monitored you should be fine...there are risks, but there are risks with lots of drugs, so its one of those risk that u take if its worth it to you...personally, Im happy i took the risk.

I've been off Accutane for over 2 months now and my skin looks like it used to when I was 12 years old :D

I wanna go on a second course of accutane! my skin was so great for like 7 months after accutane and then BAM...acne came back.
Now I'm on minocyclin again and my skin will probably clear up again but then once I come off I'm gonna break out again, as usual with antibiotics.
And it's silly, because I'm gonna have to let my skin become bad again (= increasing risk of scars again and feelig miserable) so my derm will put me back on accutane.
I hate that she put me back on antibiotics, because they only work while I'm on them any way...

I was on accutane about 2 years ago and my skin hasn't cleared up either. It was great for the first couple of months after but yeah...not so good now. And the annoying thing is that I'm turning 21 soon, surely I shouldnt be having this anymore!? It's not as bad as it used to be but it still gets me down. How old are you all if you don't mind me asking? Anyone around the same age as me? If so, do you still take medication or are you just waiting for it so die down on its own?

Alexandra, how high was your dose and for how long did you take it?
I'm 17 (my profile age isn't right).

ugh, I feel your pain! I just turned 21 last week and also feel like I shouldn't be dealing with this any more. Acne has really ruined many moments in my life the past couple of years (due to me not wanting to go outside, not wanting to be photographed...etc) and these are supposed to be the best years of my life but bad skin is just not good fo my self esteem...

I used to skip school when my skin was really bad and when I was talking to someone I always tried to show him or her the "better" side *sigh*
I'm so glad that's over, 4 yrs of suffering were more than enough.

My experience: was on full courses twice. Each time my skin was beautiful! Only side effect was dry eyes, for me. Within a year, my acne came back the same as it was before. Now I still struggle with cystic acne and clogs. It makes me super unhappy b/c I'm sure the face I present is a "dirty" one & certainly NOT representative of the degree of care I actually take with diet, lifestyle, products...& still have it like this! (I still see a derm. every month or so.) So, I'm not sure if the Accutane was worth it just for the short term time that I had nice skin. I had depression awhile back but I, like the other poster wrote, dont think it was necessarily attributed to Accutane...but I'm sure it didn't help.

Hey Laurette, I'm sorry I can't remember what my dosage was, I remember starting out on a few a day and then my doctor told me to up the dosage so I took one extra, this was for about....4-6 months? Aww Sara I know it sucks!! I think that make up is really helpful with my selfesteem when it comes to my skin, I definitely recommend trying out thick foundations like dream matte mousse by Maybelline or cool matte by Rimmel. I know you shouldnt rely on make up to boost your self esteem but when it comes to bad skin I think it's ok!
