Achieving Award Show/Red Carpet Looks

Escorted by NARS Creative Director and Founder François Nars, Isabella Rossellini attended last night’s CFDA Awards Gala (2010), at Lincoln Center in New York City to present the Fashion Icon Award to Iman. Isabella wore all NARS makeup to the event. Excited about her appearance, François encouraged Isabella to wear the soon-to-be launched Pure Matte Lipstick.
“Rather than going with a nude sheer, we went with a modern, matte lip, similar to Isabella’s natural lip tone,” says NARS International Makeup Artist James Boehmer. “This balanced the look and gave more overall color – making the eyes appear less intense.”
Below are the NARS products that James used on Isabella Rossellini:
Lips:
· Tonkin Pure Matte Lipstick (NEW for Fall 2010)
· Cruella Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (to stain color on lips)
Eyes:
· PRO-PRIME Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
· Brumes Duo Eyeshadow
· D. Gorgeous Eyeshadow
· Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara
Skin:
· PRO-PRIME Skin Smoothing Face Prep
· Gobi Sheer Glow Foundation
· Luxor Multiple
· Nico Blush

Christina Aguilera took to the stage at the MTV Movie Awards 2010 tonight in her signature full-on-glam fashion. Celebrity makeup artist Kristofer Buckle, who did Christina’s makeup for her red carpet appearance earlier tonight, upped the beauty ante by loading on the shimmer and shine. Kristopher gave us the scoop on the products that he reached for for Christina’s much-anticipated performance.

For Christina’s eyes, Kristopher defined the crease and around the lash line with Armani Maestro Eye Shadow in #38, a charcoal shade. The intense silver shine topping Christina’s lids was Ombre Magnétique in Urban Silver, a brand new gel-like shimmer shadow coming from Lancôme this fall (2010). Lancôme’s Artliner in Noir and mega coats of Hypnôse Drama Mascara in Excessive Black finished the dramatic eye look.
Christina’s lips—already a gorgeous red, thanks to Lancôme’s Color Design Matte in Red Haute—got a dramatic coat of shine with Color Fever Gloss in Mercury Rising, a sumptuous red shade.

rose byrne at the emmy awards

Rose wore a cream dress with a gold detail. Her hair was softly textured and swept into a soft high chignon by Harry Josh. I wanted to move away from anything too tan or Grecian looking, and keep things young and fresh. For this reason, I used mainly creme and gel formulas. — Kate Lee
First I smoothed the skin with CHANEL Sublimage Concentrate, and then applied a layer of oil free primer. I started by applying a layer of eye shadow base, then worked directly over the top with CHANEL Liquid Eyeshadow in Splash, a gentle mauve pewter shade. I added a liner under the lash line to add depth, then put a line of the liquid shadow over the top and blended it out slightly. Rose’s base was CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup, blended very gently away to almost nothing. I only used powder on the nose chin and forehead, leaving the rest of the skin dewy. Lashes were given a generous coat of CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir.
I used a tan matte blush to sculpt Rose’s cheek bones, then on the tip of the cheek bones and just under the brow I added a gentle dab of Nars Luxor, which is a transparent creme stick which shines pink in the light. On the top crest of the lip I used a lip pencil in a rose gold tone, to add a highlight to the cupids bow, and then I added a touch of CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Insouciance… Probably the best nude gloss ever!

I was inspired by Tina’s beautiful eyes and black beaded overlay dress to do a slightly smokey elongated eye, and keep the lips and cheeks soft and pretty. — Kara Yoshimoto Bua
The focus was on Tina’s eyes and beautiful skin. I prepped with Jurlique Rose Water and the new CHANEL Sublimage Concentrate. We kept her lips fresh and moist with the beautiful CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Insolence, and CHANEL Precision Lip Definer in Praline d’Or. On her cheeks I used a bit of CHANEL Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Rose. On her eyelids, I used the darker shade in CHANEL Eyeshadow Duo in Gris-Subtil, extended out and up. Finally, I finished her eyes with the new CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Purple. It has a slight plum tone that compliments Tina’s eyes, hair, and skin tone… This mascara is my new favorite… Lengthens and thickens like crazy!

Christina Hendricks, Supporting Actress nominee for her role in “Mad Men,” was ethereal and stunning at tonight’s Emmy Awards. Clad in a lilac Zac Posen gown, with her signature red hair flowing, Christina’s makeup was inspired by Mia Farrow’s iconic character from “The Great Gatsby.” Celebrity makeup artist Vanessa Scali gave us a call from the Emmys to give us the details on Christina’s look:
Face: Vanessa prepped the skin with Lancôme’s La Base Pro. To perfect Christina’s already luminous skin, Vanessa used Lancôme’s new Teint Miracle Lit-From-Within Makeup. “It has an amazing transparent quality that leaves the skin looking flawless and luminous without being shiny,” said Vanessa. “I applied it with a brush and then blended with my fingers.” Blending with her fingers heated up the foundation a bit, allowing for a seamless finish. Vanessa followed with Effacernes Concealer under the eyes, her “all time favorite concealer.”
Cheeks: For a fresh pop of color I used Lancôme’s Blush Subtil Shimmer in Pink Pool on the apples of her cheeks. Dabs of Giorgio Armani Beauty’s Fluid Sheer #2 highlighted Christina’s cheekbones.
Eyes: The eye shadow was mix of YSL’s Ombre Solo Eyeshadow in Cashmere Brown and Midnight Black. “I applied these all over her lid, under the bottom lashes and blended it out past her natural lash line to softly elongate the eye,” reported Vanessa. To define and elongate the lash line, Vanessa lined the eyes with Lancôme’s Le Crayon Khôl in Black. “I used a touch of liner under her bottom lashes but smudged it for a softer look,” said Vanessa. For added depth, Vanessa used Artliner Precision Point Eyeliner in Noir at the very base of Christina’s lashes. Several generous coats of Lancôme Définicils Waterproof Mascara in Black were used on the top and bottom lashes.
Lips: Christina’s lips were a mix of Lancôme lip colors for an effect that Vanessa described as “red with a little dash of pink.” A sheer coat of Color Design Matte Lipstick in Corset was topped by La Laque Fever Lipshine in Cyber Coral

2010 Emmy Awards: Lea Michele

Lea Michele had a faded navy blue that extended from lash line to crease, paired with a subtly bronzed cheek and a pinky-nude lip.
Makeup Breakdown

NARS Cosmetics worked with celebrity makeup artist Melanie Inglessis to create the makeup look for Lea Michele at the 2010 Emmy Awards. Many products from NARS’ new Fall Collection were key creating the look.
  • Lea Michele wore the following products to achieve a playful yet classic look:
  • PRO-PRIME Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base & Skin Smoothing Face Prep
  • Douceur Blush (NEW for Fall 2010)
  • Tzarine Duo Eyeshadow (NEW for Fall 2010)
  • Palladium Soft Touch Shadow Pencil (NEW for Fall 2010)
  • Tashkent Pure Matte Lipstick (NEW for Fall 2010)
“My inspiration was the era of the 60’s. I thought of Raquel Welch and Bridget Bardot: the winged eye, the nude lip. The dress is so classic, so we wanted to be adventurous with her eyes– giving a dash of color with the new Palladium Soft Touch Shadow Pencil – and kept the lip nude with Tashkent Pure Matte!” –Melanie Inglessis for NARS Cosmetics

2010 Emmy Awards: January Jones

January Jones is looking rather natural and bare-faced — maybe a champagne shade on her eyelids, but I can’t really make out what she’s wearing on her cheeks or if she’s rocking anything but her natural lip color!
Makeup Breakdown

For January’s make up I was inspired by Irving Penn’s iconic photos of his wife/supermodel Lisa Fonssagrives, whose signature extended eyeliner symbolizes the epitome of elegance. I used ultra feminine colours with super sculptural liner for a cool update on that classic late 50′s silhouette. — Rachel Goodwin
I used CHANEL Liquid Eyeliner in Noir along the lash line for an exaggerated cat eye effect, adding extra lashes on just the very outer edges for added length. I then applied two coats of inimitable CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir on the top lashes and one coat of CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Purple on the bottom lashes. The rest of the face I kept understated using minimal foundation, pale pink cream cheek colour and CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Confidence on her lips. I finished the look by dusting her brow bone and lids with a loose iridescent pearl shadow with a hint of purple to play off the super reflective quality of her dress.

.The Mission: Create a subtle, gilded makeup look to complement Hilary Swank’s Versace bombshell dress at Glamour’s 2010 Women of the Year Awards last night in New York.

The Face Painter: Newly named Clarins celebrity beauty artist Pati Dubroff.

The Face: Dubroff prepped the skin with Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch miracle-working base and primer to create an even canvas for a veil of Clarins Instant Smooth Foundation. To avoid a flat monochrome finish, she added a healthy flush by patting on a light application of Clarins Multi-Blush Cream in Tender Lichee, a warm peach.

The Eyes: Working off the colors in Swank’s pewter and bronze body-hugging gown, Dubroff dragged a matte dusty silver eye shadow up to the crease of the star’s lids, adding shimmering brass pigment just at the center to make Swank’s eyes pop. Two coats of Clarins Wonder Perfect Mascara in black added a dose of red-carpet drama.

The Lip: As for that glistening neutral lip, Dubroff slathered Clarins Rouge Prodige lipstick in Nude across Swank’s mouth and paired it with a top coat of the brand’s Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector.

The Result: A sophisticated, radiant look befitting a two-time Oscar winner, but one that didn’t steal the show. Swank presented Donatella Versace with her Woman of the Year Award.

We’ve been looking forward to Natalie Portman’s Black Swan press junket for months. Let us be the first to say that the star’s red-carpet cameo at the New York premiere last night did not disappoint. Decked in a floor-length, off-the-shoulder Dior gown, Portman modeled glamorous filled-in brows and a thin black cat-eye, courtesy of her preferred face painter, Jeanine Lobell. That stunning, sanguine lip was the happy result of a layering effort that included Dior’s new Rouge Dior in Fantastic Plum and Zinnia Red. As for her hair, stylist John D. withstood the urge to go with a ballerina’s updo and instead chose long, loose waves with some “oomph” at the root. Portman’s strands were prepped with Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream for a slight hold and a boost of hydration before John D. used his one-inch curling iron from the mid-lengths to the tips of her locks. Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray finished the style—and kept Portman’s coif intact despite a sprinkling of evening rain. Thoughts on the look?

Michelle Williams at the premiere of Blue Valentine

1zpjxtz.jpg

Makeup Bag Check: Michelle Williams
December 8, 2010

The Mission: A cute and sophisticated look to complement Michelle Williams’ sequined chiffon Azzaro minidress at the New York premiere of Blue Valentine.

The Face Painter: Celebrity makeup artist Jeanine Lobell for Chanel Beauty.

The Face: Lobell turned to Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sensual Skin Enhancer to spot-treat and provide a light veil of velvety coverage before dusting the apples of Williams’ cheeks with Chanel Powder Blush in Rose Petale, a soft pink.

The Eyes: Using Ombres Perlees de Chanel, a six-shadow palette due out in January, Lobell swept the pale ivory shade across Williams’ lids from the lash line all the way up to the brow bone, and followed with a topping of the pink color over the crease to “flatten the eye.” Lobell then smudged the gray pigment into both the upper and lower lash lines to add depth to lashes before curling them and coating them with Kevyn Aucoin Curling Mascara in Rich Pitch Black. To frame the face, Lobell penciled in Williams’ arches with Chanel’s Precision Brow Definer in Soft Brown.

The Lip: Opting for a subdued pout, Lobell painted Williams’ lips a healthy shade of pink, courtesy of Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Jersey Rose.

The Nail: Seeing as how no look is complete without a statement manicure these days, Lobell introduced Williams to Chanel’s Pearl Drop, the opalescent ivory polish featured on toes at the house’s Spring show, which hits counters next month.

The Result: One part icon, one part ingenue—i.e., the perfect red-carpet combination for the star of an NC-17 rated film.

jessica alba at the "little fockers" premiere.

“Young and fresh with a holiday sparkle” is how face painter Lauren Andersen described the look she crafted to complement Alba’s strapless white Valentino dress. Starting with Revlon ColorStay foundation as a base, Andersen added its Fluid Sheer in gold to the star’s cheeks for luminescence, topping it off with Mineral Blush in Petal, a light pink. Andersen wanted the focal point to be Alba’s eyes, so she dusted them with Dior 5-Color Palette in Incognito and MAC Pro Glitter in Reflects Gold. A precise swipe of Hourglass Liquid Eyeliner in Black and Kevin Aucoin’s Brow Pencils in Blonde (to fill) and Brunette (to shape) completed the look. On her lips: Revlon’s ColorBurst Lip Gloss in Bronze Shimmer.

The Mission: A post-People’s Choice Awards look for Drew Barrymore at CoverGirl’s 50th Anniversary Party that was equal parts mass-brand spokesperson and Jil Sander runway star.

The Face Painter: Celebrity makeup artist Debra Ferullo for CoverGirl.

The Face: “It all started obviously with her dress,” Ferullo said of look 32 from Raf Simons’ spring Jil Sander collection that Barrymore boldly broke out for the event. “The orange color reminded us of the French Riviera so I wanted to create a fresh, dewy look.” That meant sculpting what Ferullo described as a “luxurious polished finish” with CoverGirl’s new, NatureLuxe Silk Foundation, which she warmed up by patting the brand’s Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Lush Berry onto the apples of Barrymore’s cheeks for a natural sun-kissed glow.

The Eyes: Looking for a bit of subtle depth, Derullo coated Drew’s lids with a wash of golds and plums, blending CoverGirl’s Smoky ShadowBlast in Bronze Fire and Purple Plume all the way up to her brow bone and dragging the mixture beneath the lower lash line as well. A smudged line of its LiquiLineBlast in Brown Blaze on the upper lash line made for a sultry, subdued effect. As a finishing touch, Derullo applied two coats of CoverGirl’s LashBlast Volume Mascara for a touch of drama.

The Lip: Barrymore’s supple, pink pucker, came courtesy of CoverGirl’s NatureLuxe Gloss Balm in Anemone, a sheer watermelon shade, that Derullo chose to “complete the fresh look.”

The Result: A face befitting a starlet with a beauty contract—and an appreciation for high fashion.
