Addicted to buying fashion magazines, who has the same problem??

Wow! I thought I was the only one who subconsciously would just grab every fashion magazine each month and go straight to the register. I still havent read the ones I have bought because I never have time but I really enjoy keeping them on my shelf and seeing how the trends change throughout the months. My friends are always so amazed at ALL my magazines that I keep!

I have a worst problem , I buy them and I don't even read them or see the eds etc.. I just need to feel I buy it
my friend was with me and didn't let me buy de i-D design mag that was like $55 cause I wasn't gonna read it anyways

Definitely an addiction....but I try to get them for free via work as much as possible...........
I also have a particular taste for the hard-to-find, really expensive ones too which is a bit of a problem.

^I always do that! Or i'll buy a small lunch and save up for Harpers Bazaar and Vogue. And I if don't have enough money, i'll hit up B&N and literally stand in front of the racks for like half and hour thumbing through to see if I actually want to buy them or not. I'm down to 5 a month but its haaaarrrrd. :D

Me too! I once stayed in Barnes and Noble looking at i-D, Elle, Elle UK, Harpers, Harpers UK, W, V, Vouge, Vouge UK, and Vouge Austraila for an hour and a half. I am so tempted to get Teen Vouge and W, but then I would have to go all of next week without lunch... then again, it could help me loose a few inches off my hips :innocent: Just kidding!

^I've definitely scrimped on lunch to buy mags...no joke! When I was 18.... instead of buying nicer sandwiches or pricy salads, I'd buy the budget 99p Benjys ones just to buy mags! Gosh....thinking back, that was terrible....Benjys has horrible sandwiches!

haha its like the magazine quenches your appetite or something. I think its a crazy addiction but its fun to look back at the mags from 2 or 3 years ago.
Most of the time I only read the articles to convince myself i didn't buy the mag JUST for editorials and ads lol

You have no idea how much I understand what you went through

To avoid the problem I just stop going to the newsstand. :ninja: I subscribe to Dazed & Confused, i-D and NYLON, though.. and I buy Lula when it comes out. And I read my mum's Vogue Russia and L'Officiel Russia.. mainly I like Vogue for editorials so I don't really waste time buying it, I just collect other people's used issues and whatnot. :innocent:

I'm not addicted ,but I can't throw away my old mags, either. I run out of space

Oh yes, my mother used to keep asking me why I spent my money on magazines - "books" she'd call them - "you spend all this money on books" but I reasoned it was better than spending it all on alcohol.

Conversely, now that I'm older and have plenty of disposal income to spend on magazines, I find myself not so interested in the pursuit of buying as many as I can... yet ten years ago, I did anything to scrimp together enough to pay for Vogue Italia each and every month. I think when I had to 'work harder' to get hold of the money to buy magazines, somehow, it made me want the magazines more. These days, I can take or leave so many magazines that were once essential to me.

:woot: The perfect excuse! I'll try that one on my Mum next time she bothers me

I've been addicted to Ebay lately trying to get the back issues of PoP, Flair, Numéro, i-D and V! Now I've got an interest for W, Lula and Another Magazine as well. So it's like 5 magazines per month plus 5 more ordered on Ebay. I haven't read 70% of them because I don't have time and I usually try to go through the costfree fashion mags here in Sweden and the Photo (US) and (SWE). Huge addiction.

^Ebay-ing mags is a good idea... you should get some of the Face, they'll probably be worth a mint in a few years!

I really injoy reading the stories !! i love them all :-)
My addiction is going wors :D i drive almost 3 hours to get 250 old magazines like lei, italian vogue, vogue pelle, vogue uk, vogue paris, moda, glamour fr.
And i spent again to much $$$$$$$$$$$
But I love old magazines they are the best !
:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart:

well i'm not as big buyers of mags are many of you guys, but sometimes i do buy them.. i think the variety is so nice.
the editorials, beautiful, alluring, elusive, and fantasy-like photos..
the ways clothes are romanticized..
i like the smell and the way everything is.

well today i bought glamour. it's not high fashion like vogue, elle, etc but i like variety in all my magazines.

i should just subscribe.. hahaha.. it is way cheaper.

the only thing is, i love japanese mags and those cost a lot.

^_^ you guys should write a piece on OUR ADDICTION :D! The stories were a great read...and amusing.

When I was living in the States, I found myself buying my favorite fashion mags in an instance, while spending hours at the newsstands looking and flipping at every magazines: homes, politics, body and health, and them awful gossip rags ! Sometime, I would get the Economist, Newsweek, Living and Etc., which is the best home magazine in my opinion, and so forth along with the fashion magazine!!

I think the lady, who worked there was really annoyed with me and didn`t like me as much since I was there like every week. Her face was fulled of displeasurement every time when she rang up the my sale. Every week....I spend about $10-20 USD! :p

Now, i described to only Vogue and Lucky....since I don`t want to pay about $16 USD an issue of US Vogue in Japan. My addiction to Japanese Mags came from the States....I was able to contained myself then...and I always bought one magazine a month. But now that I live here....I see myself...buying 12-13 magazine a month. Every week....about $30 USD....is gone from my wallet!!

The most expensive magazine that I purchased and i will never regret it even though I threw it away was purchasing a Japanese runway report/magazine book...thingy....for $ 50-60 USD in KINOKUNIYA in Little Tokyo.

But I LOVE my addiction.....it is like having a gift or a little getaway every month

I also experience a thing I call "magazine regret" - where I pass over a magazine when it's on sale, and then a while later, start kicking myself for not buying it at the time. I remember in 1991 seeing Madonna on the cover of Vogue Italia and not bothering to buy it, and ever since, I've yearned for it - though I'm certainly not going to buy it at the prices ebay has it now. Same with Julia Stegner's 06/03 Vogue Italia cover; back then I must have concluded that it was too skinny an issue to justify the cost... and afterwards I started wishing I had bought it, when it was too late to do so.

I usually purchase 3 magazines a month, no subscriptions. So I guess I'm not yet addicted. The word there is "yet".

i think what a lot of folks do here in the USA is just grab a stack of magazines and read them at bookstore cafes for free while drinking coffee.

its not frowned upon here.

but in europe that doesnt seem like a viable option in most places.
