nymag.comYesterday, upstairs in Bobo in the West Village, Adriana Lima personally greeted the 20 to 30 fashion bloggers who came to eat lunch with her in honor of Victoria's Secret's new $2 million fantasy bra. The long table set for the meal was flanked on one end by the 142-karat bra — made from diamonds, sapphires, and topaz set in eighteen-karat white gold — and a layman's version that's actually affordable, encrusted with Swarovski crystals. If eating lunch with one of the hottest women in the world to talk about a bra sounds awkward, know that it certainly doesn't feel normal. But they could not have found a better spokesmodel than Lima, who is more stunning in person than her photos and quite charming. When she is not working or spending time with or simply gushing about her baby Valentina, who turns 1 next month, she might be in the gym, or meeting with her nutritionist. One and a half months before each VS show, she kicks her diet and workout routine into overdrive. "I’m doing a combination of different protein shakes — it’s called Metagenics. And also, I only can eat green vegetables, everything grilled or steamed, or four ounces of any type of protein," Lima tells us in her slightly accented English. "And usually that’s what I have for lunch and dinner, and every three hours in between I have a protein shake or cereal bar." Indeed, when it's Lima's turn to order her meal, she speaks to the waiter at length, finally telling him, "Whatever you can do." Her entrée, which is not on the menu, is the last to be brought out: a piece of chicken including bone and skin set atop green vegetables and carrots. She pushes the carrots aside and eats the rest.
So her diet is very low-carb. "Definitely zero carbs for sure," she says. How does that feel? "Better actually. I feel healthier, I feel much healthier." The Cut noted that we would pass out without a simple sugar here and there. "Because everybody’s different — that’s why I have a nutritionist. I go there, and he checks my blood, my breathing, everything to make sure what’s going to work for your body, you know? For me, for example, if I eat chocolate or have dairy I will feel puffy. Sometimes carbs make me feel puffy — it makes me swollen." Lima naturally looked the opposite of puffy. "Because I haven't been eating them! But you have to know — you have to pay attention, usually, to how you feel when you eat something. And I’m really liking it, the diets that I do now. Plus the workouts that I do." Lima spends two hours in the gym every day in the six weeks before the show. Her routine consists of jumping rope and boxing. "And I don’t lift weights, I don’t like machines — everything I do is with my body weight," she explains. "Every day’s a challenge, every day you’re stepping out and learning something new. So it’s wonderful — I like it a lot. It’s very intense, but I like it."
Lima, who is down-to-earth despite her practically inhuman physical gifts, is rare for a model mom in that she is so vocal about the great amount of effort she put into maintaining her post-baby figure. She doesn't just say she did yoga here and there, and that was enough. "I wanted to do it healthy," she says. "I’m really looking to my future. When I get older, I want to really be in shape. And also working out is a great source of detox, you know? You sweat out all the toxins, the impurities come out. Also it helps with your mood, you look great, it helps with your skin, and also it helps with my immune system too. I never get sick when I work out. I have actually more energy. Working out should be a part of everybody’s routine. I know sometimes you don't have time — that’s why I love jumping rope, because you can take it with you anywhere and you don’t need to do it, like, one hour. You can do it ten minutes and it’s like 45 minutes of running. So take your pace, you don’t need to do it fast, double turns and all that, you don’t need that." Right: Most of us aren't walking down a runway on national television with $2 million glitter boobs.
Speaking of cleavage, Adriana is always a fan, though it just became trendy for this fall season. "I think cleavage is always classy. Think about Marilyn Monroe, think about Sophia Loren. Think about a movie like Dolce Vita — you know, there are many beautiful, different women who can still dress up sexy with cleavage and still look feminine." But does she watch Jersey Shore? "No, I don’t have time!" she grins. "I’m with my baby Valentina when I’m home! And my attention is there — all I listen to at home is a kids’ channel and kids’ music. I don’t have time for that."
modelinia.comIf you were stuck in traffic in Soho on Wednesday morning, it was for good reason. In anticipation of this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, Adriana Lima appeared at the VS store in Soho to unveil the $2 million diamond, sapphire, and topaz encrusted bra to a crush of paparazzi and fans. Obviously, it goes without saying that the Victoria’s Secret Angel caused more than a few double takes on the city streets when she appeared in a vintage car, wearing a Marilyn Monroe style dress that was perfectly low cut to show off the Fantasy Bra by Damiani.
Later in the afternoon, after a quick outfit change into a more demure gunmetal dress, Adriana sat down for lunch with a group of online editors - and the $2 million bra - at the elegant Bobo in the West Village. After personally greeting everyone at the long table, Adriana gushed over the diamond encrusted piece of decadence, explaining her excitement by saying, “It’s my second time wearing it and for me it’s the most beautiful one. It’s the most elegant. I love the color, and I like the fact that it reminds me of a really Hollywood, ’50s inspired piece.” And as for a second look, it seems the Angel will be wearing a piece from the “Tough Love” collection. “We haven’t had the fittings yet, but I saw the drawing. One of my outfits is like a tattoo, very rock ‘n’ roll inspired. I have a strapless corset that’s red, in a heart shape. It looks like it’s tattooed on the body. It’s very cute!”
Though the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is still a few weeks away, Adriana adorably gauged editors interest in the upcoming extravaganza, asking just who planned on watching and attending the event - as if anyone would ever think of missing the Superbowl of lingerie shows. Don’t worry Adriana, we’ll all be following every detail of the winged affair!
Since this year will serve as her return to the runway after giving birth to the adorable Valentina, Adriana’s hoping to bring her precious daughter backstage for the angelic event. “I do want to bring her, but we’ll see how she feels that day. A friend of mine sent me wings for her when she was one week old. If I bring her I would definitely put her wings on!” Like mother, like daughter.
‘Adriana, big smile!” “You look beautiful, Adriana!” “Over here, Adriana, a kiss, a kiss!”
The paparazzi are losing their minds — for 29-year-old supermodel Adriana Lima.
Faced with the most sizzling Victoria’s Secret Angel since Heidi Klum, who can really blame these mere mortals? She is, after all, standing on a street in SoHo in the middle of the day, wearing a jaw-dropping, low-plunging $2 million Fantasy Bra.
And perhaps even more surprising? She comes to it naturally. “I was born bombshell,” confides the Brazilian-born model in an exclusive interview with The Post, before embarking on a whirlwind day of more than 40 appointments and hundreds of swarming, swooning, camera-phone-clicking fans.
“It doesn’t matter what time of day, in the morning, if I’m playing with my daughter. All day, bombshell.”
She’s frisky, this one. Dabbing herself with the brand’s new line of Bombshell perfume, which she calls one of her favorite things, she gives teasing answers to questions. When asked about her 11-month-old little girl Valentina with former NBA star Marko Jaric, she says — completely deadpan — that her daughter is already fluent in Serbian, gives her fashion advice and dons her own “mini heels and mini wings.” She clarifies with a playful smile, “I’m joking.”
Then, as she emerges from another touch-up in her dressing room for an appearance on “Good Day, New York,” she smacks this reporter right on the bottom.
A vision in a a bra covered with 3,000 brilliant cut white diamonds, light blue sapphires and topazes, she is chauffeured in a classic Rolls-Royce, flanked by three male models and three security guards. She is the most clicked-on Victoria’s Secret Angel on Facebook — and last month she caused such a frenzy at a store in Canada, everyone thought it must be Justin Bieber.
“I’m feeling very expensive,” she laughs in her Brazilian accent, after a Victoria’s Secret camera crew ask her to redo a take for the Nov. 30 runway event. (She struggles to pronounce the special musical guests “Kah-tee Perry” and “Ah-kon.”)
Impeccable in her English, she isn’t, but expensive she most definitely is. Ranked the fourth-highest-earning model, she rakes in $7.5 million a year, according to Forbes.
As she headed back into the store after stopping to pose, one male onlooker, who received a text from a friend that his “celebrity crush” was in the neighborhood, gazes dreamily. As she blows kisses to the crowd, 29-year-old Aaron Harvey struggles to describe just what enchants him about her sultry bedroom eyes, pillow lips and playful smirk. “I think,” he says, struggling to describe the Angel, “it’s the demonic look.”
Lima just curls her white-gloved finger coyly.
“I always had this dream,” she says as her security detail whisks her to safety, “of being like Marilyn for a day.”
Who said blondes have more fun?
