AF Vandevorst S/S 2014 Paris

i love it!!! :woot: for me best collection of the season. i just love they stay so true to themselves. and i love that literal sand affect....it reminds me of lovers on some mysterious and romantic seaside....

I love it too, those stain technique is beautiful. Quite impeccable collection.

I really like the sand effect too; those pieces are standouts.

I don't like the excessive jewelry or those gold pasties!

look like they had a great time on the beach! I don't find the sandy effect dirty. I find it so fresh and interesting.

Still one of my favourites but the sand effect feels a bit gimmicky. Fortunately there's still a lot to appreciate here. From effortless silhouettes to casual luxe, they're in a league of their own. Longing to feel the materials and see the details up close.:flower:

btw, jewellery was done in collaboration with vicki sarge whom many know from erickson beamon.

An Vandevorst and Filip Arickx celebrated the 15th anniversary of their A.F. Vandevorst label with a collection peppered with North African touches. A fabric treatment resembling a dusting of fine sand was used to accent the folds on outfits including an oversized gray trouser suit, a draped black dress and a navy silk belted burnous.

Models, some decked in heavy tribal jewelry, paraded in dresses made from rectangular panels with seams punctuated with rivets, while short sarouel pants came in everything from fluttery printed silk to black leather.

north african....which explains the sand treatments. gorgeous.

She's been wondering though the Sahara, Gorgeous.

I miss their de Chirico-esque narrative. But their worldly travelers are moving into new worlds, I suppose. And that's never a bad thing.

Seems like their women are stripping away their twilight mysteries and Magritte-aura to reveal a sun-drenched Moroccan sensuality. Very "The Sheltering Sky" meets "The English Patient". Looks good.

The delicate, breezy cuts are anchored by strong silhouettes that never verge on that girly sweetness that so many designers seem to fall into when doing delicate cuts. The subtle pleats and indigo is genuinely sexy without the flashiness that, once again, many designers fall prey to when attempting to convey sexy. These clothes need a confident woman; and I can envision women of various ages, and even a bigger women, wearing their clothes and looking amazing.

I don't see any gimmicks here: The subtle sand-blasted layers look like any pattern to me, and works wonderfully with their gentle cast of light. The jewelry lends, what I initially thought was a sense of regal Grecian exotica-- all the more appropriate for the multiculturally-rich feel of the designs. The gold pasties remind me of Greek belly-dancers, and I like the humor of covering a high fashion model's nipples.

Stripped-away compositionally, but still culturally layered of a collection.

I guess the jewelry makes more sense when given the context of Bernadette's review. Thanks for posting!

this is gorgeous, and i love the sand effect its such a cool technique and makes the garments look so much more interesting

Scott & Phuel, I agree with you both so much! I don't see it as being gimmicky and I found that the styling and the sand effects were done so beautifully, they really enhance the overall look of the collection. I love so many looks in this collection, and it is surprisingly the extremely simple ones that make me swoon, like this one and this one. I also adore the leather look in post #3. Everything about this is wonderful, it's understated, beautiful and on point and it's my favorite collection so far, too

The sand applied like glitter, or embellishment, just sold me the whole collection.
I did spy some pieces that seemed to be basically the same clothes as from previous collections though; for example the jacket with the small metal studs, or the jacket with the bullet holders sewn to the front, could easily be that jacket that held the chalk when they did that amazing blackboard collection.

^
those pieces though are very much classic vandevorst pieces since their start in 98 and they re-interpret variations of it almost every season...which btw, this collection also marks their 15th anniversary.
