Alessandra Facchinetti out at Valentino *Update* new Creative Director at Tod's

How scary to be the successor of a line while the creator is still alive. What preasure.

yeah, the same goes for YSL and Givenchy too :p

but i think alessandra is good, at least more suitable for the house than proenza schouler:o

what is Alessandra's history; and by that I mean what fashion houses did she work for prior to Valentino?

On one hand, you always feel that these young people are lightweights and in no position to take over from a master - yet on the other hand, you know that the 'masters of tomorrow' have to start somewhere on the long road to lasting success. I only hope that they give her enough time to develop into the role, and don't hastily replace her before she's had time to grow into the house of Valentino - and to synthesize her own vision of it. And it will take time.

I am sure for the first few collections Valentino will have a hand in the designs. I can't see him giving over total control in one swoop, but good for him for not working like crazy and enjoying his life now.

On September 09, Fashion Television is throwing a huge tribute show downtwon Toronto at 299 Queen Street West. I'm not sure what the sidestreet is called but you know the one right in etween the Much Music Building and Second Cup? Well that street is currently closed off or this event and will be closed off all weekend as they set up the 80 foot long runway. Supposedly all the stars in town for film fast have received exclusive invites to check out the tribute, I'm not sure if Valentino will be there himself but by the sound of it, I wouldn't doubt it. It's at around 7pm. If anyone needs any more info, just send me a message.

By the way, it's supposed to be "super exclusive" and closed off on the sidestreet for the "stars" and exclusive guests, but considering it's location, anyone could watch.

alessandra is absolutely amazing. she worked for many years with tom ford on gucci, and was his successor for all of 2005 until she resigned and frida giannini took over.

she then went on as designer for moncler gamme rouge which is absolutely breathtaking every season!

i know her valentino is going to be really great.

After looking at the Proenza Schouler collection over and over again, I don't really see how they could have took over Valentino. Nothing about their clothes say luxurious or glamorous. I like PS, but they could never design at Valentino. They are like complete opposites.

I haven't read through this entire thread, but I would have liked to see Ralph Rucci take over. Yes, two totally different styles, but the tailoring in both houses (Chado & Valentino) is exquisite. I think it could have been very interesting to see a Rucci interpretation of Valentino archives.

Actually, I think Tom Ford could do it, just as long as he doesn't try too hard to shock and titillate us with unnecessary sex (it's old Tom, it's so old. You even said so yourself). The way he dresses himself is so classic, intrinsic, and elegant, as are the shades and menswear line he has going now. I love the Valentino aesthetic and would hate for it to be swallowed up by some trendy reinterpretation, the way other lines have.

Alessandra Facchinetti worked in Milan for Miuccia Prada at Miu Miu for seven years before working under Ford for three and then becoming artistic director at Gucci.

Does anyone can tell me that Alessandra designs all the collection from Valentino ?

Including menswear, accessories, Red & Roma two second line ?

Or just womenswear HC & RTW collection ?

I hope she does all things.

Vanentino's menswear is very very very boring.

it was always my secret fantasy to have her and frida work gucci together and have their sensibilities play off of each other in a very david lynch kind of way. i think she'll do well at valentino as long as she isn't too respectful and understands that he along with his design talents are a dying breed. gotta move it forward...

"longtime accessories designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Paolo Piccioli have been appointed creative directors for the fast-growing category. There are also plans to strengthen the men’s wear division in the near future. "

My English is not good enough to understand all the report.

Does anyone can tell me that who is going to design mainline menswear accessories &

Red line menswear ? I'm craving to know who will design it.

I wish to wear Alessandra's Red line menswear & carry on Alessandra's mainline menswear it bag.

Perfect!!!

^ :D It basically says:

-Maria Grazia Chiuri and Paulo Piccioli have been appointed creative directors for the fast-growing accesories category.

-And there are plans to strengthen the menswear in the future.

It's pretty vague.

DREAM TEAM

ALESSANDRA Facchinetti is wasting no time getting her dream team together at Valentino. According to WWD, the rumour in fashion circles is that Antonio Pino, an assistant at Dolce & Gabbana, is joining Facchinetti to assist her on Valentino's womenswear line. The name being whispered to head up the expanding menswear line is ex-Prada, Miu Miu and Brioni designer Ferruccio Pozzoni, and, if sources are correct, announcements are to come soon. Valentino Turmoil
Rumors swirling about Alessandra Facchinetti's tenure at the venerable house; Giambattista Valli pegged as possible addition

Monday, September 29, 2008

(PARIS) Alessandra Facchinetti's spring collection for Valentino doesn't show until Thursday, but already, rumors are rampant that her tenure at the venerable house may be short-lived."I heard they are giving her one more show," said a top editor, echoing the words of several other industry insiders. Of course, one more show could mean all the difference for the Italian designer who reached Valentino after a long tenure at Gucci and a brief stint at Moncler.

Facchinetti's first Valentino collection for Fall/Winter '08 was lukewarmly received, with critics addressing the abundance of Valentino staples instead of serious innovation. Her first couture collection, shown in July, fared much better. "She did a great job. This collection was so much more interesting than her ready-to-wear show," wrote The New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn. "I thought she completely captured the sense of Valentino but made it more youthful. I can imagine lots of women, young or old, being interested in the clothes."

The decision to hire Facchinnetti, who was Tom Ford's longtime lieutenant at Gucci and succeeded him as creative director of women's wear for two seasons, was made by Permira, the London-based private equity firm that bought a majority stake in Valentino Group SpA in May 2007.

"Alessandra," said a well-placed Valentino insider, "paves the way for Valentino's successor to 'save' the iconic house." As for that successor? Talk has centered squarely on Giambattista Valli, another beloved Italian designer with an abundance of Valentino-esque aesthetics and a growing celebrity following. "He makes perfect sense," said one luxury retailer. "After all, we have to sell these clothes."

While a Valentino spokesperson would not comment on Giambattista Valli, she referred to the rumors that Thursday's show could be Facchinetti's last as "inconsistent."
