Alexander McQueen showed his women's pre-spring collection on the runway alongside his Spring menswear "because they both go into the shop together," but also to mark the season's commercial importance. How reassuring to hear from the designer that 60 percent of his business comes from these gorgeous, uncompromising outfits. There have been times when McQueen seemed like the new Charles James, but here, he was all about Travis Banton—the Hollywood costume designer who made Marlene Dietrich into a goddess. "Über-partying, über-glamour" was McQueen's theme. His always acute tailoring flawlessly contoured jackets and jumpsuits to the body (an all-in-one tux had nouvelle Marlene all over it). Bias-cutting and draping produced impactful party dresses. The chiffon that veiled fishtailed dresses was exquisitely embroidered with koi or hummingbirds. And the designer insisted that a heavily beaded holographic sheath reminded him of Natasha Henstridge's second skin in Species. It wouldn't be McQueen without a horror movie moment

Interesting! I like it but I am always afraid of commercial McQueen is it hardly ever goes right. It's the same problem as commercial Galliano for Dior. :ermm:

I actually really like a lot of the pieces. He knows how to cut a great sheath dress, like that black one with the smoke print (so chic). I mean, none of this really goes together, and the two black peplumed piece look like what the Zara version of the Balenciaga LBDs for fall would be. But as far as party dresses go, there are some cool options here.

That beige embroidered piece would've looked so much better without the underlayer being longer than the outer layer.

HATE the two fluorescent pieces though, especially the jumpsuit....I doubt if his clients do much speedskating so there's no excuse for that monstrosity.

The random pop of color is interesting, but annoying. Like, an annoying shade of pink or orange was chosen. :yuk:

some peices seem very balenciaga to me

same here.
i overall like it, without beign too enthusiastic about it. i really like the dresses but wtf at those random annoying colours popping out
