Alexander Wang F/W 14.15 New York

Best collection I've seen from AW, but there's so much past Balenciaga in this collection (eg textured knits), with some Miu Miu, it's brilliant but not entirely original. I do love those bags and the attached accessories, it's exactly what I need, a cool water bottle not tucked into my bag, keys, smart card holders, etc. I hated lugging the utilitarian bags out there that cater to this need, so these are perfect.

While the volumes and shapes are cool, It's more about styling and dressing up straightforward separates and coats than innovative cuts or experimental clothing structures. Materials and textures are his strength, it seems, but again, these are also NG's Balenciaga hallmark, does AW get access to archives to inspire his collections now?

It's a great collection, too bad it's quite derivative.

Alex has zero talent, but he's so lovely I don't even care. After all, is there any talent left in NY?

The collection was just bad, but the whole show was kind of electric (the music, the heat activated leather, the presentation...). I had the feeling that I was witnessing something important, kind of a fashion moment. He has become the hottest ticket in NY and he's creating a fashion emporio: didn't think any 00's designer would have the required charisma to get such a thing.

this reminds me of Proenza. I like this though, a great departure for him. He seems to be influenced by past Balenciaga collections.

sorry but this is horribly derivative. i see nothing but blatant rehashed notions of prada, balenciaga, miumiu and celine. and that whole utilitarian thing is straight out of the repertoire of early viktor & rolf(remember their "long live immaterial" collection with all that electric blue?). i just don't buy it. for all the hype he gets as if he's some saviour of fashion,he has not a single distinctly original idea in his system.

Without a doubt his best collection! And when you break it down, there is so many pieces to love!

Love! I loved how its structured and a bit of a military look at the beginning but how he then eventually plays with the cuts. And the boots are devine and are going to be a big hit everywhere!

So much of this is incredibly ugly and unoriginal. There are some great pieces when dissected, but not enough.

The heat activated leather made for an intersting finale, but rather useless in terms of use and fuctionality - especially for a collection lauded for its practicality. I can't see one getting the full use of heat activated fabrics in the cold climates of fall and winter...

He seems to be influenced by past Balenciaga collections.

My immediate thought. He zeroed in on that puffy oversized look and has been showing it in all his collections for Balenciaga and now it's trickled to his eponymous label. I was hoping he wasn't a one trick pony when his pre-fall for Balenciaga came out. Now I'm certain he is.

I kind of like the bags...but c'mon...they're SO SO SO Helmut Lang (when Helmut was still designing).

True, they also will sell gangbusters. All of those little attachments that are going to be available separately. Wang is just running to the bank.

Too my surprise, I love this collection but I think it may be a bit bloated somewhat. Can't wait to see the video.

For those who've noticed, Wang's always copped Helmut, so at least he's consistent.

So, along with Helmut, he's pulled from Nicolas and Balenciaga-- but, that's forgivable since he is heading Balenciaga. And unlike the other NYC designers, at least he makes his "influences" his own, rather than blatantly just copy-and-paste. I like this collection-- and him, for that. He's able to make it his own. The whole package is very strong in pushing his brand along, so good on him for that. I appreciate a label that's willing to think of a complete package. He's not a visionary by any means, but he is setting his label as a distinctively recognizable brand from all the rest of the other NYers.

(Those dresses with the handyman multi-pockets are horrible; they're pure showpieces and editor-bait. And besides that, too Miu MIu 1998. But, the mid-90s to late-90s are clearly a goldmine for Wang, so... he is consistent in his influences.)

There's a fresh vide about these clothes, I like most of it, the oversized jackets kinda bring a comfort and wearability to the looks. not a fan of the colors though... it's too much "old rave" for my taste

Some of this feels a lot like a Balenciaga collection, which I guess is to be expected. To me, it lacks that cool Wang vibe. I mean, it's there, but usually his collections just scream it, which is something I have learned to associate with the label. This is just very tooooo controlled and the volumes and shapes are kind of overwhelming.
Nothing will ever beat his S.S 2013 imo. I LIKE 80% of this collection, I just don't see it as being true to the brand.

Awesome collection, and pretty smart way of declining the utilitarian side of it.
Some of my favorite parts were the high boots (been craving those for a while), the leather heated fabric is ingenious (I've been dreaming about something like that for a while too, the effect and technic is really interesting), the jackets which kind of make me think of organizing trays you use for your desk stuff, and those bags..! Man they make me excited to try and DIY that.. (I'd probably be disappointed but hell.. :-) )
I've always admired Wang for trying new things but staying true to his vision. I used to associate him as a newcomer with proenza and rodarte at the time. Out of them all, I feel like he's the only one that's consistently "inspired me", whereas the other two have gradually gone towards either feeling repetitive and boring or of very bad taste..
