This is the only magazine I have on standing order from my newsagents, but after the Dec or Jan issue, I'll likely cancel it, because there is now nothing in this magazine that I couldn't get online.
Beauty is a superficial subject, but saying that, in the days of Linda Wells, there were contributors who had worked in the world of fashion and style for decades, and their opinions reflected their ability to see the long view. There were also mini-essays about people's relationship with their own image, how they came to terms with their own reflection, the beauty idols they grew up with, how a certain image in a magazine defined a moment in their life. That's all gone, replaced by 'longer' articles that are just short pieces padded out with white space.
The new editor has expanded the multicultural aspect of the covers and content - but Allure was using a lot more non-white models in its editorials long before US Vogue decided to branch out, but because it's a lesser Conde Nast title, no-one really noticed.
Given that interest in cosmetics, plastic surgery and self-image is more intense than ever, this magazine could be really capitalising on that, but the content it currently offers doesn't merit being on a printed page, so this point, I wouldn't be surprised if it moved online in the next year or so.
