WWHY NOW: After showing off her considerable talents in Mean Girls as the witless blond who tried to forecast the weather with her breasts, Seyfried has turned her attention to ABBA. Don't worry, she's not coming out with a cover album (like another blond we know). In this summer's big-screen adaptation of Mamma Mia!, Seyfried stars as Sophie, the fresh-faced bride-to-be determined to find her father, all while belting out an ABBA-fied songbook alongside Meryl Streep.
WHY SHE'LL LAST: Seyfried worked with producer Gary Goetzman on the first two seasons of the HBO dramedy Big Love, on which she plays Sarah, a teenage daughter struggling to come to grips with her polygamous, bulked-up family. When she got word that Goetzman was one of the producers on Mamma Mia!, she wasn't afraid of a little self-promotion. “I auditioned like everyone else, but I said to him, 'Keep me in mind. Just let me know what I need to do.' That was the first time I've ever done that, but I was like, I need to have some balls and go and tell him that I want this part myself.”
ON HER MERYL STREEP MOMENT: “It was definitely intimidating just thinking, I'm here. I'm standing next to her. I'm starring next to her in my first big movie. I was wondering every day, when are they going to recast me?”
SHE'S GOTTA GO: Next up, she'll appear in Diablo Cody's horror romp Jennifer's Body as the BFF of a cannibalistic cheerleader—played by Angelina Jolie look-alike Megan Fox. “The dialogue? It just makes you want to pee.”­
