this elimination has been the one that has bothered me longer than 5 minutes.
im still really distraught! gah!

and i REALLY hope they change the theme from mariah carey songs

^ Is that the theme? I like Mariah Carey songs (haha), but I don't think it's a good choice for American Idol.. they're going to be hard, and very odd to sing I would think

yeah the theme on the tv guide (haha i checked) is mariah carey songs (im sorry, i dont like them at all  ) but someone said that its being changed to billboard top 100 songs to celebrate her 18th number one.

i just think that in order for ...any of the boys really..to do a great job with this theyre going to have to be EXTREMELY creative...especially if it is mariah songs

wow tricky theme...this is the first season that i'm actually following AI (for some strange reason, i happen to see a commercial of the show and saw Brooke -and i thought she was Cate Blanchett (my face was like: :blink::o).....), so i'm not all too familiar with the themes and everything but i think Mariah songs would be tough for the guys.

kindda off topic, but does anyone have the studio versions of Jason's Somewhere Over The Rainbow and Brooke's Happy together?! ...i don't know why itunes won't let me download them like before :ermm::angry:

okay you guys i have this theory.

the eliminations so far have been david hernandez (male), amanda overmeyer (female), chikeezie (male), ramiele (female), michael j(male).

for me...that seems a little suspicious
BUT im thinking that maybe for the beginning of the top twelve that the male or female with the lowest votes (depending on the week) goes home.

because based on the bottom 3 of syesha kristy and mj...i would NOT believe that mj had the lowest votes of those three, but i WOULD believe that he had the lowest votes of all the boys.
because of how crazy the elimination was, im just starting to become a skeptic.

i just want to believe that it really is ONLY about the votes! gah! this show is so frustrating!

^ Hm, that's interesting! I definately agree that I don't think MJ had the lowest votes of the three - and if he did, well then America isn't voting right! I thought for SURE Syesha or Kristy was going home

the only reason that im thinking it could have been legit is because kristy is the only country girl (a big audience of voters) and syesha is the only one who can really belt it ( i guess carly can too..but carlys got more of a fan base) in a big way like mariah and whitney...which is probably why people keep voting for her, even though she's boring and doesn't really compare to those musical superstars.

nice theory :shifty:
i hate it when good contestants go because some happens to have a fanbase who thinks they're cute when in fact they're pretty much mediocre *coughDAVIDARCHULETAcough*

now this week, Kristy or Syesha MUST go :judge:

seriously.? you think david a. is mediocre.? what makes you say that.?

^I'm afraid that I agree about David A...he definitely has the energy and the charisma, but vocally he has not been anything particularly special for me (I keep expecting him to wow me week after week, but it still hasn't happened) -_- Can't say I would do better at his age/in his position, but I've heard many in his age group who can really trump him.

Nonetheless, his fanbase is undeniably vast...I'm sure the screaming of girls whenever David appears is quite boisterous on everyone's TVs

I've heard many in his age group who can really trump him.

i have to say i'm really surprised to hear these comments about his vocal ability....if there were criticisms of david a., i was expecting them to be concerning his looks {not "hot" enough}, personality {a bit dorky, too sweet, shy} or song choice {usually shmaltzy ballads}.....but vocally?! i don't understand....he has one of the most naturally beautiful tones...he is usually pitch perfect, he has beautiful understanding of light and shade in a song, his falsetto is lovely, he has depth and range to his voice, and his feeling is incredible....i have very rarely heard a boy as young as he is understand how to sing the way he does...

i'm curious faith....what other 17 yr old boys sing as well if not better than him.?

dont misunderstand me...i'm genuinely curious....i'm not a 'die hard' archuleta fan...i'm praising him because i've watched him sing week after week and i genuinely believe his voice to be something incredible, especially for a 17 yr old kid....i'd be surprised if there were 'many' in his age group who had the tone and depth that he does...

David's voice is not aesthetically appealing to me at all, actually  From the first time I heard him, I thought that he needed much more training to project and purify his tones (He seemed better when he was younger/on Star Search, but the changes aren't his fault, of course). Everything he performs at this stage sounds really forced, and in turn I actually detect his pitch problems much more easily than most of the other contestants. I don't hear much depth at all, to be honest...and I've turned away the channel more than once when his performances begin  (Harsh, I know)

This is not to say that David isn't deserving of his current status -- America and the judges do make the correct decisions most of the time. David's popularity is just one I continue to be baffled about  In his defense, I will say that perhaps his style just doesn't appeal to me -- my parents are both operatically trained, so there's no doubt some bias when I compare David to what I'm used to hearing. But I've liked contestants of every genre on AI throughout the seasons (Including this one), so I don't know...

I have to goto sleep at the moment, but I will return tomorrow with some of the "trump" examples I was considering ^_^ I also thought about some of the young men (17-21) at my university who are part of choirs and acappella groups here...and whom I've listened to live (Often without microphones present). There is just no doubt in my mind that they have more potential vocally.

And I'm going to get some flack for this, but hearing David's "Imagine" performance was actually the moment I started disliking him

But you know:

i was expecting them to be concerning his looks {not "hot" enough}, personality {a bit dorky, too sweet, shy} or song choice {usually shmaltzy ballads}
His dorkiness is adorable, his personality seems very genuine and understanding (Kid wouldn't hurt a fly!), and his song choices are ideal for him. So no, I have absolutely no qualms about anything else regarding him

how bizarre....but ok...thanks for explaining your perspective...

it baffles me.! it's like we're hearing two different boys...:p

You forgot about Danny, and the blond guy who was eliminated first.

so blond guy, david, amanda, danny, chikeezie, etc

I don't care who goes, along as David Archuletta stays. :ninja:

Faith, you basically said everything i was going to say!

i have nothing against David or his fans i just don't get all this hype and admiration surrounding him. yes, he looks adorable and talented for someone his age. for me, his voice is good, but not great. i'm involved in the performing arts industry (film and theatre) and i'm very sure i've heard more boys his age who sings better than him. i don't feel anything when i watch him. he looks like a contestant more than a star for me....that's why i find him mediocre.

me too :ninja: i didn't like his "Imagine" performance AT ALL.....
