I've just read it too... So sad that another model died because of anorexia... I thought that what had happened in Madrid would have made people's mentalities evolve...

i hoped so too. but as we see, anorexia is still a huge thing in this business.
sad, that this beauty had to die b/c designers say it's pretty to be that thin.

i wish her family strength and my condolences go to them.

Rip :(
This is so sad she was so young. I can´t believe she died of anorexia...hope her death wasn´t in vain and many people change their opinion about the subject
God bless her

she is such a "cute" girl. probably "cuter" than more than half of the (current) runway population. i can't help but wonder if she wanted to be "harsher", like... them. :ninja: (sh*t)

and she really does remind of jeisa, and... yeah. aww i'm sad for her family.:(

She doesn't look so thin on that images. I've added a few more images...

Modeling biz is getting out of control. :(

That's the sad sad thing. She has a body that isn't meant to be sooo tiny.... and another sad thing is... people CAN look healthy... but be horribly ill. I have first hand experience with this.

RIP Ana Carolina:cry:

Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston, 21, died of anorexia nervosa, Brazilian media reported today.

Reston, 1.72 metres tall ( 5'8") and weighing only 40kg (88 lbs), had been in hospital since October 25 due to a kidney malfunction. Her condition became more serious and deteriorated into a generalised infection that led to her death on Tuesday.

Born to a middle-class family in Jundiai, near Sao Paulo, Reston had worked for renowned modelling agencies such as Ford, Elite and L'Equipe, in countries like China, Turkey, Mexico and Japan.

RIP.
I agree with what someone else said, I'm just hoping her death and all other ED-related deaths will open people's eyes and minds. People are DYING just because the "only way" to go is thin. I repeat, people are DYING. It's no joke. :(

this is so sad:cry: ..another young life wasted
she was really pretty

Brazil mourns as anorexia claims another model's life

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Nov 16 (Reuters) - The mother of a Brazilian fashion model who died from complications of anorexia has made an emotional appeal for parents to take better care of aspiring young models.

The death of Ana Carolina Reston, 21, follows growing criticism of the use of underweight models in the fashion world, an issue given new significance after the death in August of Uruguayan model Luisel Ramos of heart failure during a fashion show in Montevideo.

Reston died on Tuesday in a Sao Paulo from a generalized infection caused by anorexia, an eating disorder in which sufferers obsessively deprive themselves of food in pursuit of an ultra-slim look.

Reston weighed only 88 pounds (40 kg) and was about 5 feet 8 inches tall (1.72 meters) tall. Doctors consider this weight normal for a 12-year-old girl no more than about 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall.

"Take care of your children ... no money is worth the life of your child, not even the most famous (fashion) brand is worth this," her mother, Miriam Reston, told O Globo newspaper.

She said her daughter had been trying to help her family with the money she made as a model.

Miriam spoke on national television and to local newspapers to highlight the tragedy. She said she had pleaded with her daughter to eat more and to see a doctor.

"She would reply, 'Mummy, don't mess me around,'" Miriam told O Estado de S.Paulo.

"Dictatorship of skinny look kills a model," said the front-page headline of O Dia tabloid, which carried a picture of the dark-haired, big-eyed girl in lingerie.

Many top models come from Brazil and thousands of young girls from all walks of life dream of modeling careers, inspired by the international success of Gisele Bundchen or Adriana Lima.

Reston was not famous but she had worked abroad, including in Japan, and did some jobs for Giorgio Armani and the Brazilian model agency L'Equipe, which declined immediate comment.

In September, Spain caused a storm in the fashion world when Madrid barred models below a certain weight from its top fashion show. Models with a body-mass-index (BMI), which takes into account height and weight, of less than 18 were banned.

Reston's BMI was just 13.5 while the World Health Organization considers anyone with a BMI below 18.5 underweight. A BMI below 17.5 being one of the criteria for the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa and a BMI nearing 15 is usually used as an indicator for starvation.

Other famous fashion venues like London were considering following suit.

November 16, 2006 -- A beautiful but weight-obsessed Brazilian model, who worked for some of New York's top agencies, has starved herself to death.
Ana Carolina Reston was only 21.

At the time of her death, the dark-haired, 5-foot-7 stunner - a client of renowned agencies including Ford, Elite and L'Equipe - weighed only 88 pounds.

She was hospitalized in Sao Paulo, Brazil, after suffering kidney failure on Oct. 25, the day before she was scheduled to go to Paris for a photo shoot.

"She didn't like when you asked her to eat," a cousin, Geise Strauss, told a Brazilian paper.

"When she ate, it was very little and she'd run to the bathroom immediately after [to throw up]."

In the months before her hospitalization, Reston was eating only apples and tomatoes, friends said.

The Sao Paulo native, who was buried yesterday, fulfilled her dream of becoming a model when she was only 13.

L'Equipe agency owner Lica Kohlrausch said she became concerned about Reston's weight when, after she'd worked in Japan on a catalog for Georgio Armani, "a representative of my agency called me and said Carolina was too skinny.

"For me, it was very worrisome coming from a woman who is used to working with models," Kohlrausch said.

Friends said that when Reston returned to Brazil, she sought treatment for anorexia - but still refused to believe she was sick.

Viviane Setti, whose fashion-model son was dating Reston said, "There is nothing glamorous in an end like this."
