Ann Demeulemeester - Designer

i have one or three of AD 's stuff.....and i must say that i find the persona that she is projecting is so BLAH BLAH that i am totally unconvinced.....as to what is real about her......this quiet sort of sensability etc is and has been done for ages ....but she must know that AD is only doing the same ole thang year after year........with some variations.....she is just plain ole BORING and quite honestly is just self indulgence ........she has just opened in hong kong as well as dover street market .....but sooner or later people will want more than a jonnie one note........!!

i absolutely despise the title of the story....ANN of antwerp.....sigh....plan commercialism........

anyway....i have always remembered Karl lagerfeld's comment on the antwerp 6........."where would they all be without comme des garcons !!!

ann D is tedious and as someone said......LIGHTEN UP WOMAN !!!

well, perhaps you just have a different sensibility, that's why you don't understand and feel what she is talking about. It's just not for you, that's all. It's like when you don't like some tv programs, why don't you just change the channel? don't bother watching it, it's not healthy! Of course it's just your opinion.

I second that

+ You're saying that what she is doing has been done for ages... but you know Ann is not really knew in the market...

+ Indeed, Ann isn't Tom Ford... she's just trying to be sincere... he isn't trying to project anything... It's frightening how in a shallow/superficial/trendy world, where most of the designers aren't saying anything senseful, real sincerity is perceived as unnatural by some people

i am just saying that .....this woman has not evolved much....same variations f the same theme.....i dont think she is not being sincere .....i just dont think she is that good ..... and that this whole undestated thing is so DONE......she is a Rei kawakubo wannabe and somehow i dont think she is anywhere near..martin margiela is doing a better job than her......look at her new boutques in HK and in tokyo ....all in run of the mill places !!!.......i THNK she has succeeded Jil Sander....thats it....ANNN DEMEU is the new Jil Sander.........

Well, what is good for you then? Is there such a standard? It's a matter of taste, isn't it? And how much do you think it 'evolves much' or 'enough'? I believe that, for her, she intends to establish her own style and identity. Sometimes, evolution can be just a subtle change, in order to remain the essence of her identity. And people see and appreciate it.
Besides, if she is not that good, how come she has been successful at this point, for 20 years? Especially without a single page of advertisement in fashion magazines. While comme des garcons becomes so commercialism and has a lot to do with an image strategy. Who's real after all?

Yeah Kate Betts did a great article on her in 1997 for Vogue and they took a photo of her in her Le Corbusier digs. It's amazingly beautiful....much like her infamous shop space.

I will forever admire Ann-even if her style isn't something I closely relate to these days, her intuitive,uber-independent approach to designing will always have my undying respect.
