This weekend I finally started a biography on Anna entitled "Anna May Wong: From Laundryman's Daughter to Hollywood Legend". It's very good and I'm learning so much. I'll try to remember to bring it to work, so I can get a few of the facts straight (i.e., it mentioned specifically what party the above photos with Marlene Dietrich were taken...and apparently there's another photo where Anna is pouring a drink down Marlene's throat!) One thing I learned was that from her first movies, weather her starring role in "The Toll of the Sea" or her bit parts in other early movies, she had an intense intrest from the public and already had fans worldwide. The sad part was that many a time she would be put in a movie, and they would advertise that she was in the movie, but then she would have a very small role. One that they mentioned was "Fifth Avenue" in 1926 (photo below). (The book is very sad in this way - despite her immense talent and the strong public intrest, she was still constantly regulated to bit parts, stereotypes, and the tragic ending).
