Jefferson Hack redesigns his flagship title
Friday, August 31, 2007
(NEW YORK) Jefferson Hack has given Another Magazine a redesign. The spruced up format will debut on September 13 with the fall issue, which features Julianne Moore on the cover clad in a Dolce & Gabbana fur jacket and high-waisted Acne jeans. Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin photographed the actress, who's promoting Savage Grace, for the cover and inside feature, titled "America's Most Enigmatic Actress, a Legend Yet to be Defined." David James of David James Associates, who's served as art director of the spin-off bi-annual men's glossy Another Man when it launched in October 2005, has come on board the flagship book in the same capacity and spearheaded the magazine's first revamp. Hack remains publisher and editor in chief of both publications.
"The redesign aligns Another more specifically as a women's fashion magazine to sit alongside Another Man without a crossover of content," said a spokesman for James, who described the new title morph as "a decorative use of color and shape." The size of the issue will remain the same. "We design and art direct Another Man magazine already, working on both magazines makes it easier for the editorial and photographic/design direction for the two titles to be developed in a holistic, focused way." The headline typography is derived from the text typeface, and one basic skeleton format is carried throughout the entire magazine but applied in different ways.
The new issue, meanwhile, also features a David Sims-lensed story on the new wave of international performance musicians as well as a role-reversing portfolio where 13 actresses, including Rachel Weisz, Kathleen Turner, Thandie Newton, and Chloë Sevigny, style themselves for a fashion shoot.
To celebrate the magazine's redesign, not to mention his gorgeous covergirl, Hack will host his traditional dinner on September 9 at The Bowery Hotel.
