Were they the worst things ever or a lost gem? What were they anyhow? I actually had a ton of trouble decently Googling the term... so does anyone have any hot ads from the 1970s that show what French cut jeans were? (So perhaps they can be compared/contrast with today's low-go jeans wardrobe.)
:p

aren't they just a high-waisted, 5 pocket, on the conservative side of wideleg jean? a classy disco look? no?

From everything I gather they're very bodyhugging, such as the back and waist being very tapered to an 'hourglass' kind of figure. And if the description I read is correct, the leg starts flaring gently from the top in a 'straight line' if that makes sense, to the bottom. That is, the flare doesn't start at the bottom. And the flare is not necessarily a big one. They were definitely highwaisters though.

i agree! that is more or less what i meant. but you have said it better. i actually have a pair. they are by Le Cullotier. they are a bit more "elephant leg". they are amazing, deadstock with all their tags, i ahven't worn them yet. and i have a pair by big blue and another one but i can't remember the name. i LOVE vintage jeans. they can be so classy. sometimes!

Wow, blast from the past! :)

Thanks for finding that!!!

And Brian, I think I had that shirt too when I was a little kid in the 1970s, gauze but in a rust stripe.

yeah those Chloe jeans were hot. this has been my favorite style of jeans for a while. I wore them last summer with peep-toe wedges. very flattering.

Those are awesome, Sienna!

I love this style of jeans...wore them as a little child...Spelling Book jeans I call them...wish I could find some nearby.

Anyone identify Charlotte Gainsbourg's jeans yet?

Hey Melisande do you think that a 29" waisted jean will fit me even though I am a 25" waist? Hmm I really shouldn't buy these should I?
