Anti-Trend: French Cut Jeans ala 1970s? Anyone Have Pix?

Oh I see -Charlotte's jeans aren't technically French cut like crazily high -they are just normal before we all went super low! Hmm have you posted them in the 'Who designed this...' bit of Star style?

You are right about the Balenciagas :( I was just hoping they had got the measurements wrong because they are a Euro 38 which is like a UK 10? Oh well. Thanks anyway!

Charlotte is amazing. The perfect Balenciaga girl and the perfect high waisted jeans girl

These are awesome but not only am I not sure if they are my size but she wont accept Paypal from international buyers. :ninja:
There is a a thread I started a couple weeks ago, called "high waisted jeans" in the trend spotting forum, which might help.
I think if you have a 25" waist normally, a 29" in this, will be way too big, considering, most people stomach, get's smaller in the waist, no matter how big...

Wow...how did you know?! Even I had forgotten! :p

Sorry about the Balenciagas...geez... I know how you must feel...I'm certain you'll find an even better pair that fit perfectly. ;) (...telling myself as well...)

Yeah, Charlotte is great. And those Chloe jeans are so great...I'm still so surprised they didn't catch like fire around the world...

^no as in I normally have a 25" waist when I get a tape round my middle. When it comes to low slung skinnies, I am a 27" Thanks for the thread info... I am off to have a look :flower:

Awww...great guess! :p No, noone kneew...I won't give up looking tho...;)

Sisley jeans were huge in 1975. I had a pair and I think that they cost about $35...BIG money then for a pair of jeans. They were a backlash to the straight legged corduroy jeans everyone was wearing with peasant blouses and clogs.

I bought a pair of Ditto jeans at Wasteland in LA. They were pretty high waisted, but because it had the "rainbow" curve seams, it did not make me look like I had a long butt..actually gave me more of a butt. They were not denim though, and were corduroy.
They were big in the 70's I heard

Yeah, and the 'designer' jeans trend seemed to bring prices up to $60 or maybe $70 and that was considered stratospheric. It's kind of interesting that 'designer' jeans are such a big thing now vs. in the 80s, 90s, etc. - there's a new enthusiasm for the current designer crop. (By designer now I mean the hot jeans brands.)

I do harbor this suspicion that a lot of cheap jeans in the 70s may have had denim that now is considered uberquality and you pay a lot for, and today the cheap jeans are made out of paper, air or something like that. :innocent: Paint me a cynic, just paint me into some nice jeans!

I found the best Charlotte Gainsbourg-esque jeans at the Goodwill...the label says GX know who you are- they are dark over-dyed with wide legs and a high waist. Definitely the anti-trend. I can't wait to wash and wear. they cost $4.99. If I ever spend more than $25 on a pair of jeans, then I'll know I've really gone over the edge.
Vis a vis the 70's euro jeans: anyone remember Fiorucci? I am sure too these jeans were of excellent quality and nice real indigo dye.

oh geez I dunno... high waisted pants make women look so much older... I suppose if you're going for a professional look that can be good. let me say I do think high waisted dresses and skirts are very chic, but jeans... it has to be held together by the rest of the outfit, couldn't be worn casually

According to this post, here on the Charlotte Gainsbourg thread, they are vintage Levis, but you'll have to find out what the model number is. Or if you know what that type of "square" pocket on the front is actually called, you could maybe search by that... They are awesome jeans though, so hopefully you can find them! ;)

I notice no one has posted in this thread in a while, but I'm secretly (or not so secretly) hoping that really exceptional 70's jeans and pants come back again. It seemed like last year for a nanosecond people were really hot for this trend, I mean Dittos even re-issued the jeans, but then they were GONE, never to be return it seems in favor of the skinnies which are hard to wear and boring me to death.

My theory? The jeans were highwaisted, which always scares people. I also think that the high waist, was perhaps...a little too high. Or, that no one explained that you need to find a rise that is suitable ultimately for your height! I mean on a very tall person, a 10 inch rise might not be very high, but on a 5'2 curvaceous pipsqueak like myself, it's pretty high!!!

The point of the jeans was that they weren't supposed to be ribcage high either. It should sit just above the bellybutton. I'd also argue that new jeans aren't the way to go here. I'd rather comb through all my favorite vintage stores, even men's jeans (you can have them altered) and find the right ones to find that elusive aqua that i love so much.

OH GOD YES!!!! Fiorucci were da BOMB!!!

I think with the way denim can stretch now, they should try to make them the way you described. The only reason the vintage ones dont fit good is because they dont stretch and they are ill fitted. People are smarter now and want things to fit like a glove
I think the problem is that if you have even a small tummy, it makes your tummy look fuller.

Ironically, I have a bit of a tummy, and these vintage ones I have almost girdle it into place. I've often wondered if the fact that stretch components in jeans make jeans eventually lose their shape? That said, it would be so nice to see really great ones come back. I love em. I know I'm probably in the minority around here where that is concerned, but hey..what can I do?
