Any Nylon Alternatives?

We all want to love Nylon because of it's spare covers, nice layouts and what it used to be. But we are frustrated by it's endless tributes to faux-hipsterism, Cory Kennedy and mainstream, airhead/cokehead covergirls. But is there an alternative? Have you guys leafed through these magazines? What do you think?

1. Missbehave: Never read it, wild layouts, I think some articles are hilarious, seems hipster through another direction too, but I am not sure. Kinda hard to find? Available quarterly? Lydia Hearst issue looks good.
2. Teen Vogue: I do not want to advocate shameless promotion of consumerism, materialism and superficiality among 13 year olds. If it's a 23 year old who earns her own money, it should be okay.
3. Bust and b*tch: They kinda look the same to me. They sound a bit too angry and less girly. Haven't read it.
4. MarieClaire: Seems mainstream and just a bit younger than Bazaar/Elle but essentially the same? Havent read it.

Any other suggestions?

Teen Vogue has some creative editorials and styling. I like that, but otherwise the Gossip Girl/OC/The Hills thing is always annoying

There is Lula magazine, though that is more 'girly' and 15 dollars.

I hate Nylon now, so much. At least I have my old issues.

I just bought a copy of Missbehave, the one with Lydia Hearst on the cover. I was really excited about it, as I felt that it is marketed to girls just like me. It is a disgusting magazine, and I don't use that word lightly. It's actually misogynistic. I would rather buy Cosmopolitan - I'm not kidding - than this magazine.

^ Misbehave has some funny articles but overall it's too over the top - too loud, too hipster/scene (whatever you call it). Also, some stuff is just distasteful.

To be honest, i've been trying to find a "Nylon alternative" for a while but nothing so far is as aesthetically appealing or as abundant in content as Nylon. Preen is nice but it doesn't have that much content.

Hey there.
I really like Frankie, and Australian magazine.
Pretty much my favourite magazine right now. I liked Nylon but feel the same way- it's part of a sub-culture now, one I don't particularly like.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Lula is very pretty, I might buy it for pictures alone, but it doesn't have any articles does it? I will give Preen a try too.

Don't you think that the 18-25-30 year old female demographic is being ignored by the publishing industry here? Don't they earn money from us? Jane folded (not that I really liked it.), Mademoiselle closed a long time ago. What's left is a bunch of magazines that are being marketed to a specific subculture and nothing that encompasses everything that we want to see: 1. creative layouts and edits, 2. insightful, witty articles that we can relate to and 3. people that we actually want to hear about (i.e. people who actually are good at something who give interesting interviews...). Nylon used to have 1 and 3...

(Because US Vogue, Bazaar, and Elle are for 40 year old trophy wives or maybe yuppies; I can't bear to read another article about how 18 year olds are starting early on Botox.)

You are so right. I do wish there was a fashion magazine out that I as a 22 year old could relate to. I think some of the British Mags are pretty good (ID, Dazed & Confused).

I HATE Nylon too! I bought the last one to read the article about the Kills and I didn't even read any of the other articles because they were all so smug. It seems like the message the magazine sends out to its readers is "I'm so much cooler than you so buy all the stuff I tell you to" Ick! (Actually this would be bearable if they were actually cool but in their London issue they kept on talking about Boombox like it was the newest coolest thing. Whatev!)

Paper Magazine is decent. Flaunt is okay.
I still have my first (May 1999) issue of Nylon...Shirley Manson & Damon Albarn were in it.

My best friend interns at Missbehave, and it's actually not that bad of a read. I think it's a fun, entertaining magazine. :innocent:

has anyone read Oyster Magazine?
I saw their website and they dont have much
but from what I did see
it appears very Nylony

I actually have an old issue from Oyster (2006 I believe), & it's the only one I've ever seen but I really liked it.

Depending on where you live, VogueGirlKorea is just fantastic!
I think of it as Nylon, but having clean / crisp editorials and more respected models!

I love Yen Magazine! Its about 10 dollars and has a good mix of everything.
