Just wanting opinions - are Marc Jacobs bags passe? I've seen so many "knock offs" and similar bags. If you were to spend $$, would you still purchase MJ?

I don't think they're "passe" per se, but just keep in mind that you're paying good money for a simple looking bag, and if you're fine with that then alls good :flower:

Yes, just like everything else from him. I suggest you move on to real designers.

They are very basic bags. Maybe a bit too industrial looking for me! But if it suits your style then go for it. They're still cute! (just like most Marc Jacobs stuff in my opinion! <3 Marc Jacobs!!!)

I think they're very basic, but the colours are very rich and the leather is soft. I wouldn't buy a MJ bag in black or ivory because I think they're very boring, but the violet, grass and marigold are very nice I think.

He makes a great everyday, casual bag. I don't think they are passe, but I don't think they are timeless either. If your budget allows you, and you love them, then by all means - grab one!

I don't like his stuff, it's too boring and full of hardware, I rather walk around with a zebra print clutch w/ patent leather plumped up lips on the clasp

Ow wait, Im wearing that clutch now

Passe, perhaps, but defintely a trend gone beserk...

Yes they are, and the hardware is quite clunky. What is the appeal of these bags. One of my sisters had and returned one of the bags in one of the trendy colors and it stains horribly (water marks, stains your clothing) Apparently, Neimans and other retailers have gotten lots of returns on the bags because of this...a critical step in quality control was missed.......

Poor design and poorer quality just don't merit a $900 pricetag.
Also, and not that this should dissuade you from purchasing...the bags are quite popular amongst the younger sect, especially like teens......just saying....... :innocent:

I dont know about passe...but i wouldnt get one. I think the hardware to me looks unattractive and the bags are quite plain looking. Some people go for that, but I dont...especially for how much they cost.

I think they make a great every day tote, but not very special. The look has been copied everywhere, so if the budget and timelessness is a consideration, you may want to look into a less expensive version. i don't know of any specific stores, but I see the style everywhere (Gap maybe?)...

I totally agree with you that its been over-copied... I went into a Roots store here in Toronto yesterday and saw an exact replica of the stella bag

it's not so much that they're passe, they've just been shelved for newer more hip brands like tods, hogan, and jimmy choo bags...people who buy marc jacobs bags these days buy them for completely different reasons than the original girls.

these days, i compare marc jacobs to tiffany and co...girls from a certain class have SOMETHING from him even if they don't wear it.

I don't think they are passe but if I had the money, I would get something different

wow Roots! used to be one of my fav stores when I lived at home (T dot O) lol. The NY store is so/so.
How much were they? If I was into the stellas that would probably be a place I would buy the copy from, as the leather is so superior. I have Roots bags/jackets from over 10-15 years ago, that are still in AMAZING condition. I have bought from them in approx 3 yrs, is the leather quality still great?

Yes.. I see MJ replicas on the street that are very close to the original... They used to have this horrible and very WRONG hardware.. but now they've got the pushlock thing down...

I guess I'm different from most of you guys.. I love chunky hardware.. I think it adds a bit of status to the bag. But in most of of the designs of MJ bags, I agree that it tends to be a bit boring. I think I prefer the Venetia to the Stella...

When it comes to clothes I think Marc Jacobs is a genius. Still, his Bags are too dull and to me look the same.

Booooring and been knocked off to many times. You can buy them at Target now for nine bucks.
