^ I agree, it seems like it wasn't very long again that topshop was pushing obi sashes and mandarin style jackets.
but with that said, I've already been feeling this quite a lot lately... I've lately been extremely inspired by the traditional japanese kimono, complete with the bow sashes on the obis... I just think they are really, really gorgeous. I've been thinking about making my own abbreviated version of a kimono very soon. ^_^ I don't like the kitschy asian influence though (i.e. stereotypical reds/blacks/brights...and designs that the high street shops interpret as 'asian'), not at all. I think it should be pared down, not in your face.

I love the obis on the first two mcqueen and de la renta pics you posted, ania. thanks :flower:

the whole Asian Theme seems come again and again for years now

yeah, i agree... I remember when I wanted to have all those asia - inspired -things in my wardrobe ;)... And now it is like flashback ;)...

Wow! Great topic! :flower:

I was personnally never really into the whole asian trend (I remember really noticing it when it went mainstream with those shirts with dragons and chinese writing all over them). But the McQueen gown really is gorgeous.

The Oscar gown, I am not too into it, but I can see how that kind of waist band could look amazing on other stuff. I've seen a shirt from a local designer, the brand is Nevik and they make a lot of asian inspired stuff, it is long sleeved and have that kind of waist band (and the fabric they used is just really beautiful, many colors available too).

But as far as I am concerned, I can't see this trend suit my style too much.

i really like the shapes of some of the asian inspired pieces !
kimonos  love the wide sleeves & belts
i like the shapes of the pieces mixed with simple fabrics & muted colours
agreed with utopia not really keen on the whole cheongsam w/ red silk & black flowers :innocent:
