Austrian streetstyle

Pic I made in the most famous place of Vienna (you're looking at a part of Kärntnerstraße and Graben in the 1rst district). This is REAL streetstyle, some tourists, and mostly people who don't care about how they look:innocent:

oh yes, with all the contents :innocent: then I'd change my watch every day

(side note to all non Viennese: you'll find nice watches and jewelry on the ground floor of this building, the shop sells stuff like Rolex etc.)

I haven't forgotten. I don't have a digital camera, yet.

Ok. The good news is: I bought a digital camera.

I've a question: How do you guys photograph those people? Do you approach them or take pictures "secretly"? I need some advices before hitting the "Graben" please, anyone?^_^

Do you speak German? If you don't happen to ask a tourist I dunno how many people would understand English (especially older ones) To be honest when I took my pics I didn't ask anyone... too bothersome and if you take out the faces it should be ok anyway, unless you want pro-looking stuff like from the sartorialist

No I speak german. I am Austrian.
I think I'll just pretend to photograph buildings - while actually photographing outfits...:innocent:

A fellow Austrian ^^ Maybe take some pics around Schottentor University or WU... more young people with interesting outfits rather than tourists and old people in boring coats :ninja:

more viennese hipster party pics here ;)

I think you find all sorts of style in Vienna. It is used to be fashionwise incredibly boring but has changed enormously in last fifteen years. The main trend is rather conservative chic and elegance, but as you can see a very livley and versatile underground or alternative scene(s) exists.
when it comes to dressing up for going out most people are rather laid back and don't bother too much :) (very different from Britain imo)

Not sure exactly where to post this, but here seems like a good place!
Where are the best places for shopping in Vienna? I know that Graben has a lot of designer flagship stores but I don't know anywhere other than that. Any sort of outdoor markets or anything? Sorry if this is the wrong thread to ask this in! :)

every saturday. there's that fleamarket up on Naschmarkt. there are also a few second hand shops, i know at least 3 which sell designer stuff and one with more "indie" stuff.

else, stick to Graben/Kärtnerstrasse. they got EVERYTHING you might possibly need. wanna go shopping some time? :flower:

Ooh that would be nice! :)

I'm currently staying at my boyfriend's place in Eisenstadt but I'm starting german lessons in Vienna on monday so I want to be sure to check out the best places for shopping while I'm there. A shopping buddy would be cool!

oh maybe I am abit late, but as a shopping tip - one of the coolest boutiques in Vienna is Song. It is rather in a hidden spot across the bridge from schwedenplatz, but totally worth visting :)

Here's their link:

I'm studying abroad next fall in Vienna and I was wondering if any of you girls were from Austria and had pictures to share?

Well, I've come and gone from studying abroad in Vienna and absolutely adored every second of it! My school is in the first district, so it was like a game to filter out actual style vs. tourist crap.

Anyways, thanks for all of the pictures :flower: I'm headed back to Wien later in the summer, so I'll try to get some pictures myself to share!
